Mary Moon Obituary

MOON, Mary Evelyn (Turner) January 10, 1926 July 13, 2010 It is with unspeakable sadness that the family of Evelyn Moon announces her sudden but peaceful passing on July 13, 2010, surrounded by her adoring family. Evelyn was born on January 10, 1926 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. She was the daughter of Frank and Christine Turner and younger sister to Ken. She spent her early years in Wetaskiwin and as a young adult moved to Edmonton where she trained and worked as an Administrative Secretary for the Dean of Medicine at the University of Alberta. In 1947 she met the love of her life, Lawrence Moon, and they were married on September 2, 1949. These two lovers and best friends shared 60 rich and exciting years together. Their marriage was blessed with the arrival of three children: Pierann, Greg and Christine. Evelyn experienced deep joy in being a mother, and cherished every moment spent with her family. She was absolutely the greatest mother one could ask for and always put her family first. She was so happy when the family expanded to include son-in-law Terry Lindberg and daughter-in-law Georganne Moon. Her four cherished grandchildren, Krystal (24), Janelle (19), Riley (16), and Evan (12) were connected heart to heart to Grandma, and she was filled with pride and joy in watching them grow. Through the years she was committed to many work and volunteer endeavors including years spent at the YMCA Camp at Lake Edith, YWCA work in Calgary, UNICEF, and University of Victoria Library as well as to numerous programs in many church congregations. She partnered with Lawrence in ministry and together they were deeply connected to faith communities in Edmonton, Calgary, and Victoria. She was adventurous, open-minded, a seeker of knowledge and thrilled to have traveled widely. She loved music, sang and played the piano. She was an avid reader and spent many happy hours lost in a good book. She was a gracious host, a marvelous cook, and welcomed one and all into their home. She was gentle, generous, and showed genuine warmth to everyone she knew. Her faith in God's sustaining love and presence was unwavering. She will be deeply missed by her brother Ken and sister-in-law Margaret, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of cherished friends. We will always love you and hold you deep in our hearts. A Celebration of Evelyn's Life will be held at Hillhurst United Church, 1227 Kensington Close NW, Calgary, Alberta on Saturday July 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Wherever you are on July 17th at this time, we ask that you take a moment to reflect on Evelyn's life and feel joy. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, 3250 Bloor St. West, Toronto, ON M8X 2Y4 or through www.united-church.ca .
