Maurice INGRAM Obituary

With heartfelt emotion we announce the passing of our beloved Dad Maurice (GG) after a long, healthy and active life. He is predeceased by his loving wife Margaret and his son Charlie (Lori). Survived by his daughters Karen (Ross) and Sandy (Ross), sisters Jocelyn (Jim) and Dolores (Wally), 5 grandchildren: Kaylie (Elin), Dan (Jenn), Sean (Laura), Oliver (Laura) and Eric (Kiana) and his 7 great-grandchildren: Zach, Nate, Jamie, Madi, Lucy, Ryan and Elena.

Dad was born in Vancouver & raised in Cloverdale, BC. He worked several gardening jobs in his youth and enrolled in Agriculture at UBC. After first year he elected to complete university with a civil engineering degree. Upon meeting the love of his life, Mom and Dad soon tied the knot and his career with the BC Dept of Highways brought them and their young family to settle in Victoria. Dad's engineering career spanned 4 decades, starting as a surveyor in the Cariboo and Sunshine Coast, progressing to District Engineer in the Lower Mainland and then on to Victoria as the Senior Highway Design Engineer in the Design and Surveys Branch. He had a great eye for detail and provided oversight/review on many of the major highway projects in BC in the 60s, 70s and early 80s. He was also instrumental in the late 50s designs of Highway 1(401) and Highway 99 (499) in the Lower Mainland.

After retirement Mom and Dad had many years of adventure & travel to numerous sights around the world. Dad was an avid curler, golfer & vegetable gardener. He began hiking after retiring from his engineering career & continued his hikes right into his 90s. He was also a very savvy stock trader and investor and it kept mind sharp as he followed world events and trends well into his mid-90s.

Dad passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2023. His gentle & caring nature will be missed but he will live on forever in the hearts of his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Feb 3, 2024. Details and condolences can be made on the First Memorial website.

For over thirty years, my design team worked under the leadership of Maury. As the BCGEU shop steward for his section, I had many dealings with him to resolve grievances and to negotiate the hours of work each year for all members in the unit. I found him always to be fair and willing to adhere to our collective agreement and find reasonable resolution to personnel problems. In all the years I worked with him I never found reason to doubt his word or to dismiss his opinion. Both at work and at social functions, he was enjoyable to be there with. My best wishes to his family in their time of grief.

Dear Maurice's Family.
My most heartfelt sympathies to all of you. I enjoyed my time helping Maurice over the last few years, I would tell stories of my grandkids and he would go to his computer to share pictures of his great grandkids. He was so proud! Every so often he would ask me to make pudding or jello for him, I would tell him it reminded me of my childhood because my dad would have jello for dessert everyday. I will think of him every time I make it for my grandkids. Maurice was a pleasure to work for and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Maurice! Jane
