Mavis Bjorkman Obituary

June 26, 1921 - August 27, 2013

Mavis Rosemary Bjorkman of Sidney, B.C., passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, on August 27, 2013, at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, ECU, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mavis was born in Red Deer, Alberta on June 26, 1921. She is survived by her two children, son Gordon (Amber) and daughter Lorna McKintuck; her sister, Kathy McKibbon (Dave); her grandchildren, Lana Popham (Jon), Guy McKintuck (Mel), David Bjorkman (Keli), Carol Bjorkman (Pat) and her great-grandchildren Christina Bjorkman, Kye Popham, Brynn McKintuck and Neve McKintuck; her step great- grandchildren Christopher (Kim), Shureen, Brandon, Jennifer and Robbie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her very special friends, Alica Kuhar and Mary Buckerfield.

She was predeceased by her mother Jean Douglas, her father, William Blair MacNaughton, her beloved husband Leonard Bjorkman (1966), her long-time companion, John McKillop (1999) and her brother Dick MacNaughton.

The family of Mavis Bjorkman wishes to thank the care-givers at Saanich Peninsula Hospital ECU for their never-ending consideration to Mom's comfort and well-being during her final years.

Mom was a beautiful person, inside and out and loved her family, friends and life, without reservation. She could always be counted on to be there when needed and never failed in her obligations. Her laughter was contagious and made all around her want to laugh with her. She spent her formative years in a small community in Northern Alberta before moving to BC and meeting the love of her life, Leonard, moving with him to Mount Sheer and later Britannia Beach where they raised their family. Mavis' circle of friends was very large and she enjoyed them all immensely. Anything she set out to do, no matter how difficult, she did, and made it seem like fun. Mom, Gran, you will be sorely missed by your family. God bless you.

A private gathering to celebrate Mavis' life will be held at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the charity of your choice.

CARE Funeral Services in charge of arrangements.

Remembering your lovely MOM, at Mount Sheer and Britannia Beach, The Chatterbox, The Hudson's Bay Store where she worked with my sister Jeanette. She kept in touch with my MOM Alice Graney too. She felt so badly she missed my Mom's 80th birthday by coming the wrong day, but it turned out the two of them had a lovely visit together afterall, two very special ladies who will always be remembered fondly. With sympthay, Linda & Brian Harvey, Richmond, Bruce & Judy Graney, Yellownife, NT.

Dear Family: I have very fond memories of Mavis working in the Mt.Sheer store. She was always happy and full of life. She worked for my husband Bob McKilligan in Squamish and was a top cashier. He tried to talk her into staying. I think we did touch base Lorna at a Britannia reunion. Our deepest sympathy on your loss.Remember the good times. Warm Regards, Bob. & Frances McKilligan.
