Merle Siebert Obituary

SIEBERT, Merle David Dale Known as Dale, passed away in Saanich Peninsula Hospital on November 6, 2016. He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Myrtle Rae and children: Norma Ann Siebert, of Langley, Eric Gordon Siebert, of Nanaimo and Linda Diane Ackermann, her husband Jacques, and three grand-children: Tait Rise (9), Tessa (8) and Tori Antonia (6 3/4); of Calgary. Born at Barnett, BC on November 2, 1931, Dale first worked in Port Alberni as a faller and part-time welder. After a severe back injury he decided to go to university and in 1960 graduated from UBC with a degree in Forestry Engineering. Dale then worked for UBCs Research Forest in Haney, BC for four years. He was then offered a position with S. Madill Limited in Nanaimo where he eventually became sales manager. This role involved frequent travel, sometimes accompanied by his wife, and led to discovery of his favourite vacation spot on Maui where he and his family returned for many years. When the opportunity arose to set up his own contract logging company (Tribune Timber) at Coal Harbour near Port Hardy, a long held dream became a reality. In 1991 Dale retired to a new home in North Saanich where he appreciated the changing daily views of Pat Bay. Here he enjoyed hosting numerous friends and family in the 'cabin on the beach.' He took pride in maintaining the landscaping, particularly the lawn, hedges and a spectacular row of Alberta spruce trees. One of his passions became the growing of boysenberries, blackberries and blueberries that he shared generously. He loved having a vegetable garden where he grew Walla Walla onions, zucchini, beans and several varieties of tomatoes. A celebration of Dale's life will occur on Saturday, November 19th from 11:00 to 2:00 PM at Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club, 1949 Marina Way, North Saanich, BC.
