I have happy memories of taking the ferry to Victoria and visiting Michael's antique store on Fort Street where I bought some of my very first fountain pens from him (still have them!). When he found out that my pen friend learned pen repair from the same English gentleman that taught Michael, he showed me his pen repair workshop at the store, and then proudly brought out his magnificent vintage Waterman red ripple hard rubber fountain pen desk set that Queen Elizabeth II used to sign a document while visiting Victoria. I hadn't seen Michael for a few years and then one day, he mentioned that he would be coming to Vancouver and asked if he could attend one of our pen club (the Vancouver Pen Club) meetings and I said "Of course!". It was great to see him again at the meeting, as well as at a local antique show (where I bought more really nice fountain pens from him). Michael always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye when he talked about fountain pens. He was a talented pen repairman (whose prices were always very fair) and a really nice guy. My heartfelt sympathies go out to Michael's family and friends on his passing.

What a shocking news this morning when I learned this from our fountain pen community! I only began to seek for a few consultation from Michael about a couple of my Parker fountain pens early this year in February. All the sudden in August, he found an élysée (my favour brand as being expressed thorough our Canadian fountain pen Facebook group) Display Cardboard from his antique store and he thought of me immediately and asked if I liked it. I was thrilled & Excited, and certainly said yes!
So he just shipped it to me without accepting anything in return, not even the postage! The cardboard as shown from his desk, might not be worthy of any money, but the kindness of his which I was truly & totally touched. Now I would never have the chance to return him a favour... What a wonderful person with such a kind heart, and I always liked his sharing of the bird photos! Bet he's a bird lover.
Michael had to have a good soul, even I didn't know him well but I can say that. Michael will certainly be missed by the fountain pen communities here. My sincere condolences to his families. Goodbye to my respectful friend. May your soul rest in peace now. God bless.

I was saddened to read of Mike's passing, my condolences to his Family. I had the pleasure of playing football with both Mike and Vince back in the mid-sixties and remember what a couple of characters they were. Pete Flucker, former teammate.

I was a teacher at St. Louis College in Victoria when Mike and Vincent were students there. I remember Mike as being energetic kid with a quick wit and a nice smile. John, his uncle, was principal at the time and we were all good friends.
Sincerely, Brother Tony Cannon, CFC
