It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Daniel John Davies. Born in Cardiff, Wales on November 4th, 1939. Died unexpectedly on Friday, January 13th, 2023. Survived by wife Anne and her children Jude and Martin. Sons Mark, Paul (Susan), 3 grandsons, Owen, Will and Brendan and first wife Kathy Oakley (Tony). Stepchildren Leah (Sean) Joe (Leanne) and predeceased by their mother Sandi.

Michael was a well-loved teacher in England and Canada for 43 years and helped shape many lives. He also had an incredible love of music and received his Master's in music education. Michael immigrated to Canada in 1969 and began teaching at Lakehill Elementary school. He retired in 2004 and kept busy, including becoming an accomplished lawn bowler. Our lives will never be the same, he will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation B.C.

I really enjoyed having Mr.Davies as a teacher while I attended Cloverdale. He taught us so much about history and sparked my fascination with it which still continues. I also very much enjoyed learning geography from him. I remember that year of school very fondly because of how great of a teacher and nice of a man he was. Rest in peace

I remember Mr. Davies as a very kind teacher. I had him in a split grade 5/6 class at Lakehill. I have memories of music and singing at some venues around town at Christmas time. I believe he drove an older Austin Cambridge? RIP Mr. Davies

All of us have a special teacher that sparked something in us. For my daughter, Kate, that teacher was Mr. Davies. She speaks often of him and credits him for helping her discover her amazing artistic talents. Mr. Davies had a way of always finding the positive things in one of his students. I remember most his wry sense of humour at the parent teacher meetings. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Davies was my grade 6 teacher at Cloverdale Elementary. I didn't have a great rapport with many of my teachers in elementary with the exception of Mr. Davies. He always encouraged me and was supportive. I remember him to be a kind, compassionate, patient human being with a good sense of humor. He was very supportive of my artistic nature and I truly felt like he believed in me and appreciated me. When I graduated from grade 7, I gave him a picture of me riding a horse and was touched when I saw it sitting on his desk and framed, a few years later. I will always remember Mr. Davies for how he instilled confidence in me. He was my friend. My teacher. He was a lovely man and will be remembered fondly. Rest in Peace Mr. Davies.

Sincerely, Kate Runions

He was my favorite person in that school and over the years I have thought of him often. He was inspiring and warm hearted. I'm so sad to hear of his passing and my heart goes out to his family and close friends at this time.

Mr. Davies was a wonderful teacher, and one I've never forgotten. Having tried my hand at a few instruments and with a few other teachers, Mr. Davies teaching style and encouragement got me to love music through his recorder group at Cloverdale Elementary. I still pull out our old sheet music and play my recorders today! I don't think I'll ever forget his "oh come now"s and his jests that what he was teaching us in our Grade 6/7 split was "not rocket science." He also instilled in me a love for geography with his map-memorizing tests, and a promise of two sour jujubes if you scored 100%. Very sad to hear of his passing, but it's lovely to see remarks from other past students and to know that he had such a great impact on so many of us. Sending thoughts to those close to him that have lost an incredible and caring person. (Photo is the recorder group at Cloverdale for the 02/03 school year).

I have such wonderful memories of Mr. Davies from my years at Gordon Head Elementary. I remember rehearsing the plays he and Mr. Turner produced. I would have liked Mr. Davies to have known that I grew up to be a theatre artist and educator. He had a huge impact on my life, May he Rest In Peace surrounded by beautiful music. I would like to offer condolences to the family of Mr. Davies.
Mr. Davies was my grade 6 teacher at Gordon Head elementary in 1970. He was one of my favourite teachers throughout my school days. He was such a kind, gentle, wonderful man. Mr. Davies found out I was learning the violin and requested I play for him. He showed such encouragement to me with my efforts.
Mr. Davies, without knowing it, was an anchor and grounding force in my somewhat unhappy childhood. He was such a comfort without being aware of it and for that I am eternally grateful.
Rest In Peace Mr. Davies. You touched so many peoples lives and I am so honoured to have had you as a wonderful teacher.

I would like to offer my condolences to Mr. Davies family.
Mr. Davies was my grade 6 teacher at Gordon Head elementary school. He was one of the most caring, considerate, warm hearted humans I have ever encountered in my life. He encouraged me and fellow students to do their best and was always looking out for the students.
I played violin and will always remember the day he asked me to play for him and, as I was a beginner, he was so encouraging, which helped me with personal struggles, of which I am sure he had no idea.
I have always thought about, and spoke highly about, Mr. Davies, my grade 6 teacher.
Rest peacefully Mr. Davies. You were one of the best teachers ever.

I have great memories of Mr Davies teaching us music at St Michael´s elementary in grade 7. He was someone that put me onto the musical path I still am walking today. A kind, well spoken and talented man that really helped positivity shape the person I am now. I often thought of him over the years with gratitude and I´m very saddened to hear of his passing. To those he leaves behind, I hope this message brings you a smile. He was a lovely guy and will be very missed.

Mr Davies was my teacher at Gordon Head elementary in the mid 70's. Perhaps 74-75. He was a thoughtful, kind, caring teacher. One of my favourites. He had a very even temperament. It was a rarity to see him frustrated or angry. I remember him fondly. My deepest condolences to the family on this sudden, tragic loss of a wonderful person. Very sad.

Michael was a true gentleman, a caring teacher loved by his students, and an incredible musician. Some of my fondest memories were producing school musicals together, though he was always the creative genius behind the productions, writing both the musical scores and the scripts. Your Cloverdale colleagues held you in the highest of esteem, Michael, for your integrity, cheeky British humour, and your deep friendship. My condolences to Ann and all of Michael's family - the world has lost one of the best. There will be beautiful music in heaven.
