WANTED: unique obituary for a rare 99 year-old vintage model. LICENSE EXPIRED Michael E.D. Gye, of Sidney, BC. Motorcycle enthusiast and truly unique design to the very end, no imitations, patented design. The Gye design was launched in Lausanne Switzerland in 1926, its various components were developed in France, Britain, Italy, India, and completed in Sidney, BC on October 26, 2025.
The Gye design was improved over the years by the loving efforts of the most fabulous designers including Valerie, Sonia and Patricia who together with the Gye design, produced and helped launch a truly spectacular, international range of models including ten next generation models, and 40+ second and third generation models. The original Gye design is also represented in the exclusive Italian series models.
When not racing or riding, the Gye design and two of its next generation models leave a combined mark of over 100 years in urban forestry in Victoria which continues in fine strength today. This remarkable history will be reflected when the original Gye design is archived to its final resting place.
Having served in India and Japan during WWII, the Gye design showed remarkable resilience. In the life long years following, the Gye design inspired many…never letting wear and tear get in its way and could be counted on to deliver across multiple recreation and sport platforms, performing at the highest calibre level and always striving to leave the younger, flashier models in its dust.
Happiest when attracting attention both on land and at sea, the Gye design was renowned for its sense of humour, its musical talents and its remarkable zest for life, speed and love, all of which certainly contributed to its popularity in any social setting.

I met Michael last year when John and I moved into Amica. He was always great fun with a huge enthusiasm for life and motorcycles. I was privileged to know him.

To the family and friends of dear Michael. I am so saddened to hear that he has left this world after such a long life of experiences. What an amazing man and adventurer. May he glide on to ever more adventures.
