Michael HALLIHAN Obituary

HALLIHAN, Michael (Mike) September 11, 1924 - February 6, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our family patriarch. Dad said he was born in a horse pasture in Liscarroll, Mallow, County Cork, Ireland and he said he was the 7th son of a 7th son. We know he used that Irish lilt, with a grin and a twinkle in his eye when he was giving someone (us) the gears. Dad served in the RAF and after his tour in India, he was honourably discharged. He met Mom in Jersey, CI and they planned their move to Canada. Dad came first, travelling across Canada by train to New Westminster with $13.00 in his pocket, good looks and his outgoing personality. Mom followed and they married on Lulu Island, in Richmond. They moved the family, Michael, Chris and Marj to Metchosin in the '50s and then added Tony, Peter and Sheila to Dad's work crew Some of Dad's fondest memories are of Government House in Victoria. He told many stories about the errands he did for the Lieutenant Governors he served. He also gave many hours of work to the Legion Branch 91 and he was privileged to be a Life Member. After Dad retired he did volunteer work at the Metchosin Golf Course. We know he had an opinion about almost everything, including when it was time to stop work and have a wee nip at the bar -thank you Grant. Surviving Pop-pop is Michael and Terry (Daniel, Karin and Greg), Chris and Gloria (Fletcher, Trevor, Riley and Caitlin), Marj and Robert (Darcie), Tony, Peter and Gina (Samantha and Patrick), and Sheila and Doug (Frank) and many nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 15th, 2013 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 798 Goldstream Ave, Langford. Flowers are gratefully declined. Dad had a soft spot for the St. Vincent De Paul Society or the charity of your choice. "And God Bless all the Grandma's and the Grandpa's."

RIP Great uncle Mike. The last time I saw him and Connie was in Dublin, and also Cork, their last trip presumably to the Emerald Isle. I particularly remember his Beige linen suit, which I thought was lovely. He always kept in contact with my mother RIP, and often sent her a few dollars at Christmas in a letter.

My thoughts are with you all.
