Well, Mike, I´m sorry that I had a bad cold and missed your memorial. I just wanted you to know that you were one of thee most gentle persons I had the pleasure of knowing, right from high school to the present day. I was so pleased that you met my son, who lives on your street. It truly was an honour to be your friend. John Polkinghorne

For Linda, Patrick, Christopher and Derrick and their families:
Oh my dears,,our family members here in Jamaica are so far away. We would so love to be nearer to support you in whatever way we could.
Unfortunately my earliest memory of Mike is an unhappy one - before he left Jamaica. My Mom, Mike and I were walking up Craigie Hill to visit Auntie Annie Grant (Aunt Birdies Aunt). We were close to the house when Aunt Annie's ferocious dog rushed out and bit Mike on his upper thigh...Auntie Annie administered home remedies and MIke was a brave soldier. It was many years later when Mike and Linda visited Jamaica to attend Denise's wedding that I met Linda. I will always cherish the memories when Mom and I visited in 1996, after Natalie's graduation and MIke, being the consumate tour guide, took us all around Victoria and much of the scenic tours of Vancouver island. He knew I loved classical music and gave me a tour of the huge HMV store down town - I till have the CDs and DVDs. Then the most amazing thing,,,, he took me to Eagle Moon Art Gallery where I bought a print that caught my spirit. Roy Henry Vickers was the artist. On the way home Mike pulled into an unpaved parking space where a "trailer" was situated. What a wonderful thrill is was for me - It was Roy Henry Vickers work studio and I met him there and he autographed my print for me. I have happy photographs to remember the occasion. Mike was like that!!! I think he really liked being a tour guide around Victoria. Then he accompanied Mom and I on a ferry ride to Vancouver - another unforgetable experience. Although so far away and our visits were infrequent, Mike and Linda and the boys had a special place in our hearts, and now having recently met Ashley we've made room for her too. Longing for the day we will meet all the other Newmans. Our deep love to you all - from Marjorie

I had the privilege to meet Mr. Newman as he was making a visit to his son, my friend Chris. In a blink of an eye, I had a real example of how much the apple had not fallen far from the tree - in a good way :)
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to my friend Chris, his beloved mother, and his entire family. You are in my dearest thoughts.

Mr Newman was a neighbourhood dad. I will always remember the sound of him laughing and the sound of him yelling (with love) at the boys in exasperation. My funniest memory of him is when he got a bunch of guys together and started a croquet league... I have no idea why or what started the croquet thing but it´s just something he did. I´ll remember him as always busy and involved in some business or endeavour. But the laugh... he was such a good spirit.

It was always a pleasure to be on shift at the Victoria Weather Office with Mike. Aside from being a great briefer, he was funny, warm, cheerful and a great storyteller. The time always flew by when I worked with Mike.

Mike was a dear friend for 62 years, life will never be the same without him. Great memories of those years flash through my mind on a daily basis. Lot´s of laughs to recall over that time make me smile and laugh every day to ease the thought that he's gone. Mike had a great mind and any time I had a question of just about anything he would have an answer, my encyclopedia buddy! One memory I have that Mike said to me one day was "I love you like the brother I never had" although I have a brother my thoughts were mutual, Mike made it two brothers. I could write a book of memories but will leave it with my sincere and loving condolences to Linda, Christopher, Patrick, Derrick, the grandchildren and to the rest of his loved ones. The photo is the last one I took of Mike, he had been at the Apple Tree for our Friday lunch and was heading back home on his spiffy e-bike, taken Sept. 2022

Dear Linda: Very sad but very thankful I got to see Mike again just 6 months ago. Great memories of him in View Royal Scouts and in Colquitz JHS band. Pleasant thoughts of visits to him and his lovely Mom on Vickery Road, and having just missed meeting his late Dad.
Also good to have seen you last September, Linda, another former Yukoner! Beverley joins me in sending our sincere sympathy.
