Michael O'NEILL Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of our dad, Michael "Wayne" O'Neill. He passed away peacefully June 4, 2024 in Victoria BC.

Born on Nov 27, 1948 in St. John's, Newfoundland. As a baby, dad embarked on a journey across Canada with his parents, beginning a new chapter in their lives. Dad often fondly recalled how his mom would say "he crawled across Canada."

He grew up in James Bay with his siblings and was the oldest of seven children. His adventurous spirit and mischievous antics provided him with a lifetime of lively stories of his youth which he loved to share.

Always a hard worker throughout his life, he began his first working years with a paper route. Over the years he held various jobs, many of which were in sawmills and construction. In retirement, dad came full circle and again took on a paper route which he loved doing.

He enjoyed sports and was known for his love of the Blue Jays and Patriots. He also loved going for drives, reading, puzzles & there wasn't a Hallmark movie he hadn't watched many times!

Known for his easygoing disposition, he made friends easily and was liked by everyone. This quality also helped him in adapting to life's changes, including living with dementia over the past several years. Despite his struggles he still had a smile and his wit never faded.

Predeceased by his parents Mike and Pearl, and his brother Bob. Survived by his children, Rhonda (Keith), Mark, Shayne; grandchildren; siblings Jim (Glenda), Gary (Donna), Carol (Mike), Linda (Dan), Anna (Norm) as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

At his request there will be no funeral. A family get together will be held at a later date.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Wayne. Myself and brother Dave were born and raised in James Bay and were great friends with the O'Neill family. Wayne's brother Jim and I were the best of friends growing up in James Bay. Always looked forward to seeing them all at our James Bay reunions, and always spent time talking old times with Wayne at the reunion. On behalf of myself and brother Dave we would like to pass on our Condolences to the entire O'Neill family for their loss. Rest in Peace Wayne.
