Michael Rafter Obituary

RAFTER, Michael
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Rafter, our much-loved husband, Dad, and "BaBa", on January 31, 2025, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Survived by his wife Michele, their daughter Elise (Trevor) and son James, grandchildren Quade and Macie, his father George, siblings Dan, Mary (Joe), Carol, Andy (Brenda) and Mark, sister-in-law Margo (Barry), brother-in-law Tom, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.
Mike worked hard for his family. Over the years he worked as an electrician for various local companies before striking out on his own as M R Electric; he was also a long-time wholesale driver for the Times-Colonist.
Mike enjoyed sharing time with his family, gardening and yard work, crossword puzzles, his morning paper, NASCAR races, local sporting events, car shows and races, dancing at Music festivals, camping, and trips to Parksville, Calgary, Arizona and Hawaii.
As a grandfather, Mike had endless patience for reading books, horseplay, and jumping on the trampoline.
Mike will be fondly remembered for his Hallowe'en fireworks displays, home-made apple sauce, his love of 1968 Camaros, and his care for the many cats who adopted him over the years.
Many thanks to the amazing nurses of the Hospital at Home program for their care and compassion.

A private gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Mike and his brothers and sisters grew up with a bunch of us in the Royal Oak area. A lot of fun times and some pranks to be remembered as well. I also became an electrician. We both worked for the same contractor for a few years in the mid 80´s. Mike was very dependable and extremely knowledgeable. I wasn´t surprised to hear he went out on his own. He loved his family dearly and I know he will be missed by all. On behalf of my sister Beverley and my brother Bruce our sincere condolences to Michele and the Rafter family.

So faithful to a remarkable family (Editor Michelle and kids!), despite long health battle... no wonder that he was much treasured. For him, I pray (with the song): "Go in peace; nd laugh on glory's side"-- David Fuller (Rev.)

I had the good fortune of meeting Mike back in the 80´s. We were both Electrician´s working for the same contractor.
Mike was a hard working guy that you could always count on to the get the job done. We always found time for some laughs along the way.
It´s always a good at work when you are working with great people.
