Mike was one of the kindest people I knew on campus. He was always willing to help, to chat, and engage with people. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and will miss him a great deal. I remember how he calmed our students while prepping them with their microphone before they took the stage for their final program presentations in the School of Public Health and Social Policy. My condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Mike.

Mike was legendary in the AV world. He was extremely competent and well respected but above all he was a kind and genuine guy always willing to do the right thing.

I had the pleasure of meeting, working and becoming friends with Mike when was our banquet captain at the Ramada Inn. A bunch of us from the catering dept headed over to Vancouver to an ACDC concert on a Friday Eve. Once we all checked in at the Ramada Renaissance Paul started handing everyone their concert tix. When we realized our tix were for the Saturday night concert, "oh no" as we had to get back Saturday am to cater 2 weddings, Mike grabbed the phone, called ticket master and begged them to help us. It worked... Mike even picked up flowers for the lovely lady who saved our day, as we all walked to the office to trade our tickets over. We had a great time at the concert that eve. Mike was that kind of guy... He give anyone the shirt off his back to save the day. I'm in Hawaii and missed the celebration of life. Today I will toss a fresh Hawaiian lei into the ocean at the molikini crater in memory of you Mike. Rest in peace my friend.
Love, Heather Lamont

Like many in the Events community we had the pleasure of working with Mike at the VCC and later at U Vic. He was very easy going and fun to work with and never gave the feeling you were bothering him with anything he wasn't happy to do. He was a really great guy who will be missed.

I always considered myself to be blessed to be in Mikes life...
We had so much fun back in the day..our crazy fun friendship grew into a very intense love for one another.. we were engaged to marry but circumstances changed that and we became friends again with a very intense love for each other..
Mike was always so much fun and very unpredictable..you could pretty much count on him trying to put one over on you..we were always trying to one up on each other.. I woke up one morning to my cousins car being up on bricks so the next day my cousin and I let the air out of his tires...the fun and not knowing what was coming next was never ending..
I know Mike will remain in all of our hearts as we carry on..and what an honour he has given to us..
Mike..
Until I see you again.. Rest easy sweet man.
Love you
Tina

The Victoria basketball community is still reeling from the news will miss Mike immensely. The V&DABA will be forever grateful for his tireless coordination of referees for youth basketball and his patience in dealing with all the changes, cancellations and other challenges. It will be very difficult to find someone with all his attributes. He will also be remembered for his skill and fairness as a referee and more importantly, as an outstanding human being. My condolences to everyone in his family.
