Moira Davies Obituary

DAVIES, Moira February 05, 1925 - January 26, 2016 THIS is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless, Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done, Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou lovest best… Walt Whitman It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Moira Davies. Moira was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. She met her future husband, John Hughes Davies, at the age of nine when they became next door neighbors. They married during the last year of World War II and moved to Canada in 1956. Moira's life was full of adventure. She enjoyed travel well into old age and had friends all over the world. She also was a dedicated meditator and Transcendental meditation teacher, a life long student with a love of languages, studying French, Italian, Welsh and German. She went back to University in her late Thirty's and was awarded a B.Ed and taught with the Alberta School Board in Edmonton. Moira loved to sing and studied voice and piano for many years. Her voice was applauded by the Welsh Society. At the age of 72 she drove across Canada so that she could obtain her four-year degree from the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. At 76 she returned to Victoria and started a private practice. Moira is survived by her three children: Roger, Michael, Gwendolyn. Her five grandchildren: Merran (Dan), Kristin, Sarah, Ryan, Pasheabel. Her two great-grandchildren Ashley and Parker and her daughters and sons by marriage: Patricia Davies, Lore Dana Simpson, Andrew Struthers and her "Angel" James Keating. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunset Lodge, Victoria. To leave a condolence, please visit www.earthsoption.com

I have only fond memories of Moira, a dedicated Gramma and Great-Gramma. A woman who moved across Canada just to be closer to family. A true light was lost with the passing of Moira, but continues on in the many people she touched.
