Myrtle Smith passed away on March 17, 2025 in her 101st year. Mom was predeceased by her best friend, life-long partner and beloved husband of 75 years, Don as well as her brothers Daryl, Gord (Dorothy), Clare (Madeline) and Claude (Phyllis and Eldie), sisters Phyllis (Buster) Shade and Muriel (Rom) Knott and sisters-in-law Pat Heggie and Margaret Gray.

Mom will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her son Bruce (Paula) Smith and daughters Linda (Dave) Clark and Debbie (Dave) Secco and her pride and joy her beloved grandchildren Erin (Lance) Long, Dan (Leigh Ann) Smith, Kristen (Jeff) Bergunder, Mike (Christina) Clark and Scott (Evelyn) and Maddie Secco. Mom was born at home in Brentwood Bay on December 18, 1924 and was a proud descendant of Fred and Esther Sluggett, early pioneers of the District. She was an avid sports fan and participated in numerous sporting activities in her youth. Mom remained active in tennis and bowling in her latter years. She was also a faithful supporter of her children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits and actively followed her favourite local and professional sports' teams.

Family was the center of Mom's life and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and laughter. She was the epitome of patience, generosity, thoughtfulness and kindness. Mom will be best remembered for her freezer full of chocolate chip cookies, being the family ping-pong champion, Christmas Manhattans, hosting family trips to Hawaii and Mexico, her spontaneous and exuberant laughter as well as her total dedication to our family.

We would like to acknowledge the empathetic and compassionate care provided by Dr. Ted Rosenberg and his staff, as well as the Brio team at Berwick Royal Oak.

So sad to hear of Myrtle´s death. Myrtle was the most amazing person and we loved to see her at family get togethers or down at Willows beach. You just wanted to snuggle up next to her to chat as she always had something fun and interesting to say. At family get togethers, there would be a crowd of people around her and everyone would be laughing and having a good time. There was that sparkle in her eye that just pulled you in. We consider ourselves the lucky ones to have known and loved both Don and Myrtle. Our deepest sympathy to the whole family. Willows beach will be less sparkly without her.

So very sorry for your loss. What a venerable age! I laughed hearing about the Manhattans and other stories via my sister (Joan Robinson). Kindest Regards to all from Linda (Robinson) Webster.

My deepest condolences to the Smith family. A lot of fond memories of visits at basketball and fastball games with lots of laughs. I now know where Debbie got the chocolate chip cookie recipe! Remember the good times. She was a lovely lady and will be missed.
