Norman Paddock Obituary
PADDOCK, Norman Lovelace Passed away at Victoria General Hospital on June 25th. He is sadly missed by daughters Judy and Sarah and grandchildren Rosemary and Tristan. Norman was born in Bath, England in 1918. He served in the RAF during WW II. On his return to England he was awarded a scholarship to Emmanuel College Cambridge where he pursued graduate work in chemistry. In the 1950's he married Betty Hodder and worked as an industrial chemist. He took up an academic position at the University of Manchester in 1961. Norman and family moved to Canada in 1967 where he became a Professor of Chemistry at UBC and achieved international renown as a chemist. He retired in 1983 and moved with Betty to Victoria to be closer to their grandchildren. In his retirement he pursued interests ranging from the growing of rhododendrons to the study of quaternion algebra. He was also an active volunteer worker with Amnesty International and the Parkinson's and Epilepsy support group. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Chapel, 4725 Falaise Dr. Victoria. 548796
