Norman Williams Obituary
WILLIAMS, Norman Lionel Gerald February 21, 1926 - December 24, 2021 Norman died peacefully at his residence at Berwick Royal Oak in Victoria on December 24, 2021, two months shy of his 96th birthday. He is predeceased by his loving wife Daphne Anne (Graham) Williams, who died January 16, 2016, and his parents, Major Lionel John Williams of the British Army and Elizabeth Maude Williams, a talented landscape painter. Born in Gibraltar, where his father was stationed with the Army, Norman was schooled in England and at 17 joined the British Army. His intellect and interest in science led to an Engineering Degree and eventually a move to Canada in 1957. His work took him to Winnipeg where he met Daphne. It was love at first sight, as Norm got the courage to ask her for a date at her place of work for Air Canada. They married in 1962 and lived in Burlington and Cobourg, Ontario. Norman worked his way up to a Vice President position at Westinghouse by this time. Norman found his career as an Engineer to be varied, interesting and fulfilling. When he and Daphne moved to Victoria on his retirement from Westinghouse, Norman found more time for golf and scouting every English pub on Vancouver Island. Tours of the giant water bomber at Sproat Lake and the Boeing plant in Seattle were candy for this ever-curious engineer. Norman was the definition of a true gentleman, where integrity and respect must prevail. He seldom spoke of his accomplishments. He and Daphne shared a deep interest in all current events and civic matters. Norman appreciated his favourite steak house, good red wine and scotch, and there was always room for dessert, as Norman had a sweet tooth. His fine sense of humour was gentle, never at the expense of others, and he knew Daphne would sometimes cancel his vote. Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Berwick Royal Oak who helped make life so comfortable for Daphne and Norman in their final years. He will be dearly missed by the Graham and Yeomans families, and Christopherson kin. Norman, we know you are "jogging along" enroute to sharing a good scotch with the love of your life Daphne. There will be no service. Donations to a charity of your choice are appreciated.
