Otto Gruenheit Obituary

Remembered as always being an easy going and happy go lucky guy. Otto moved from Germany to Winnipeg in 1956 where he started his life in Canada, later moving to Victoria and then Vancouver. Otto liked camping at the Chehalis River with his wife to watch the salmon run and walk the vast trails, fishing with his brothers and friends, travelling and carving pumpkins on Halloween. Otto loved animals deeply and found endless happiness and comfort in the company of his beloved companions Mai Ling, Caine, Izzy and Lai Lu.

Predeceased by his brother Willy in December of 1982, father Otto in November of 2014, mother Stefania in January of 2023, and his beloved family Mai Ling, Caine, Izzy, Lai Lu.

Survived by his wife Pauline his sister Trudy (Udo), brother Siegfried (Kathy) and George (Debby) and his nieces and nephews along with his great nieces and nephews.

I am very much saddened to hear of Otto’s passing and extend deepest sympathy to his wife Pauline and the Gruenheit family for their loss.

Growing up in Vic West, my memories of Otto are that he was a very kind, sincere, and principled person. The kind of fellow who was very easy to like, a cool older brother who stood up for others, and who wouldn’t hesitate to act for all the right reasons.

Without doubt, I have had the good fortune of knowing Otto - he'll be dearly missed!

It saddens me deeply to hear of Otto's passing. I've known Otto since he was 14yrs old. Even though we only saw each other sparingly throughout the years, we always quickly embraced each other. Always a smile and a kind word between us. Otto was a reserved, kind bear of a man. It hits home just how short life truly is. I will miss running into him occasionally, but retain many a fond memory of a boy/man who always brought a smile to my face. It's a very sad day to lose one of the kindess people to visit this world...
