Pasquale GIULIANO Obituary

GIULIANO, Pasquale Maria (Charlie)
Charlie was born September 2, 1949 in Grimaldi, Italy. Sadly passed away January 3, 2026, unexpectedly, at Victoria General Hospital.
In May 1957, age seven, Charlie boarded ocean liner Vulcania in Port of Naples sailing to Canada with his mother Rosaria and two older siblings. Arrived in Halifax May 16, then travelled by train across Canada to Vancouver where they were reunited with Charlie's father, Gaetano. Gaetano immigrated to BC, when Charlie was an infant, to find work, establish a home and prepare for his family's arrival. Charlie's parents (who have since passed) later welcomed two more children in BC.
Charlie is deeply missed by his partner of 47 years, Leilani and her extended family; his beloved son Giancarlo; his sisters Marlene and Rose (Lance/ nephews); brother John (Shannon/ niece); and his nephew Guy (Robyn). Charlie was predeceased by his brother Alex and sister-in-law Gaynol.
Charlie had a lengthy career as a BC Transit Operator and was passionate when it came to labour relations as he was a strong advocate for improving working conditions for drivers.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the healthcare professionals who provided Charlie care over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a date yet to be determined.

Charlie was a dear, loving and devoted friend. He loved playing poker, or pool with friends, sharing a good meal with a glass of wine and stories of his transit days. He was passionate about getting better working conditions for his union brothers and sisters. We will miss his smiling face. Our hearts go out to his family for such a sudden and huge loss.

I first met Charlie through his partner, Lani, who was my work colleague and friend, in the early 1990s, after they moved with their young son Giancarlo to Victoria from Vancouver. I visited their lovely, hospitable home countless times in the following 35-plus years and was always warmly welcomed by Charlie and, of course, Lani.

He was a kind-hearted, very intelligent person and we enjoyed many conversations about politics, world affairs, and life in general. He was an excellent cook and an ace with a barbecue, and also a skilled gardener. I remember watching him preparing his own soil mix and growing spectacular tomatoes, garlic, chili peppers and more.

I will always miss Charlie and am grateful to have been his friend. My deepest condolences to Lani, Giancarlo, and all of Charlie's family and friends.
