Patrick HERBERHOLZ Obituary

My heart breaks to advise you that my husband, Patrick Anton Herberholz has passed. He joins his parents, Muriel and Anton (Tony), in heaven. Pat was a quiet person who was genuinely kind, caring and sensitive. He had a quiet sense of humour and a cheeky sparkle in his eyes.

He had the ability to keep friends throughout his life, from his childhood on Agnes street, high school at Mount View, SISLRA DragRace Club, coworkers at Capital Iron, and other employers including 10 years at UVic. He had many good memories of drag racing and of the friends he met talking about cars, specifically his 1970 Dodge Challenger. He also had an 'I can fix that' attitude that was admirable and it showed in his work ethic.

After a 38 year friendship, leading separate lives, Pat and I joined our hearts and homes and married in 2017. He accepted my loud crazy family and they accepted him with open arms. We spent many weekends camping, playing cards and enjoyed the simpler things of life. Sadly after retirement Pat was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and then with Lewy Body Dementia. These diseases took away the Pat that we all knew and loved.

To keep his memory alive, Pat leaves behind his wife, Ruth and her children Pamela (Dan), Rick (Nykita), Sara (Kyle), Rebecca (Alex) and five amazing grandchildren, also cousins and many very good loyal friends.

I want to give special mention to the staff on first floor at Sidney All Care. Your attention, compassion and companionship towards Pat didn't go unnoticed. You are special people with big hearts.

Pat's family and friends will come together to celebrate the man they knew in late April.

Ruth. I am very sorry to hear about Pat's passing. He was one of the 'nice guys' at Uvic. I had heard he was in poor health. He went far to soon.

Thinking of you both.

I have lost my long time friend Pat. We grew up together as neighbors on Agnes Street. We did many crazy and wild things together. Pubbing, partying, driving our cars around Victoria doing the "Route´', and just hanging out together. Pat always had the nicest car. And the fastest. Especially his white 73 Duster. and then his 70 Dodge Challenger, which he never parted with. Pat, we had such great times in our lives, I will never forget you. I am so glad that we had a long lasting friendship, and I am glad that you found Ruth who took such good care of you until the very end. Until we meet again, please rest in peace and my condolences to Ruth and family.

My earliest memory of Pat was school, Colquitz, and Mt View. Pat and I had a passion for 60's muscle cars, we were in all the same classes, welding, industrial power, drafting etc. The conversation would always be wether Dodge or Chevrolet would build the fastest car, and we would argue the point! Great times goin to school in the 60's and 70's. Pat was always a familiar person at the local drags at Western Speedway, always pitching in to give anyone a hand. Sincere condolences to Ruth and surviving family, its never easy to say goodbye.

Pat was, and will always be, a treasured memory as the words of his life have been told here. I worked with Pat at Capital Iron in the seventies. He was a joy to work with, and to know as a friend. Sincerely, Barbara Gillis
