Patrick Lockert Obituary
LOCKERT, Patrick Joseph
Patrick was born in Macklin Saskatchewan, the twelfth and last child of Casimir and Rosina Lockert, on March 17, 1937, and passed away on July 29, 2024, in Victoria, British Columbia. He was 87 years old.
For 18 years Patrick lived with some of his older siblings and parents on a farm and in the village of Denzil, Saskatchewan. Life centred around Sacred Heart School, Sacred Heart Catholic Parish and the sports of baseball and hockey.
Patrick loved learning and for 12 years he attended the same five-room village school. Ursuline sisters and other dedicated teachers kept the school a centre of learning, worship and sporting activities. Denzil and surrounding villages sponsored sports tournaments regularly on weekends. Patrick proudly kept his baptismal, first communion and other religious certificates throughout his life.
After high school, Patrick spent several years and evenings attending the Universities of Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. He graduated from the University of Alberta with Arts, Education and secondary administration degrees. His degrees were a background for 35 fruitful years as a teacher and administrator. Most of his teaching career took place in St. Albert, Alberta.
Patrick was especially proud of his family. His great love, wife Elsie, teamed with him to raise and educate son Gregory and daughter Jennifer, who are raising their own families, the much-loved grandchildren (James, Sofia, Benjamin and David) of Elsie and Patrick. Important milestones in Patrick's life were celebrating religious rites and educational graduations of his wife Elsie and those of his children.
Patrick's parents, Casimir and Rosina, are deceased, as are his brothers Casey, Michael, Thomas, Lawrence, Edward and George. His deceased sisters include Elizabeth, Reverend Sister Patricia, Anne and Katherine. Patrick is survived by his sister, Terry.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Cross Parish in Victoria, BC on August 8, 2024. Interment was at the First Memorial Funeral Home following the Mass.
