Penny Patterson Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce Penelope Kathryn Patterson has passed. Born in Vancouver on February 28, 1940 to Hilda and Douglas Bell, Penny left us on September 18th 2024 at the age of 84. Penny went to her great beyond with dignity, surrounded by her children and her beloved friend Jill. She leaves behind her loving children, Kathy, Don, and Jay. Grandchildren Bryce, Maxwell, and Madeline will miss her dearly. So too will her friends and neighbors, so many of whom did so much for her throughout her life and during her brief struggle with cancer. Penny was a fixture in the lives of many.
As a youth Penny was an accomplished dancer and figure skater. She attended UBC before becoming married and moving to Victoria to raise a family. In 1973 she found herself a single mother with three children to raise. In a characteristic display of savvy, determination, and chutzpah, she brushed up her business skills in the most logical and cost effective way possible, by attending the local high school, where her teenage daughter was in grade eleven. Together they took it in stride. The courses helped her to obtain employment at School District 63. A few years later Penny furthered her education once more and became a care aid at Central Care in Victoria, where her compassion, determination, and wonderful sense of humor allowed her to flourish.
In retirement she devoted herself to her many dogs, her friends, and her garden.
Penny's tenacity, quick wit, and compassion will always be a part of her family and of all who knew her or were touched by her.
No service by her request, she would be pleased with donations to the Saanich Peninsula palliative care unit which she greatly admired.
Family are indebted to Jill, Brianne, and Dr. Marsh for the depth of their many kindnesses.
