BANKS Peter John, O.B.C. MD. (LOND.) D.Sc. (HON.) F.R.C.P. F.R.C.P.(C) F.R.C.P.I. F.A.C.P. Died peacefully at home in Victoria in his sleep, on December 4, 2002. Born in England on June 12, 1922. Educated at Epsom and St. Bartholomew's Hospital, qualified in 1946. Appointed Tutor of Interns, 1953, in Victoria, President of the B.C.M.A. in 1964. Chief Negotiator of the B.C. Medical Plan, appointed Health Commissioner of B.C. to integrate the Federal Medical Plan of B.C. 1973. President of Canada and the British Medical. Silver Medal of Service, B.C.M.A., awarded the Gold Medal of Service, C.M.A. 1997. Received the Order of B.C. in 1996. Dr. Banks was President of the United Way and a keen fly fisherman. Governor of Shawnigan Lake School for 35 years and Chairman of the School Board for 8 years. Predeceased by his first wife, Mary, Dr. Banks is survived by two sons, Christopher and his family in Kenya and Nicholas in Victoria; his daughter, Anthea in Victoria.After a long illness, he leaves his second wife, Ann and her family. Thanks to the staff of the Renal Unit, Royal Jubilee Hospital. Private cremation. No flowers by request. A small Memorial Service will be arranged at a later date.
