Peter Dawe was indeed a gentleman. I was fortunate to play for him in the Victoria Colt Baseball League. His inspiration, encouragement and leadership have had a lasting impact on my involvement in sports. I am most grateful and sincerely appreciated having Peter’s positive influence. You will be missed.

Mr. Dawe was a very strict teacher. But if he saw a spark of intelligence and potential in you he would fan the flame. I wasn't by nature any kind of academic. But he saw me. He challenged me. And I was so proud when he gave me my first B grade ever. Whenever fellow students said anything negative about his toughness I would rise to his defence.

Kudos Mr. Dawe - you found and lived your calling in this life.

Warmly remembered by a long ago student.

R.I.P. Mr Dawe was my homeroom teacher, a kind but firm man who helped channel some of my energies into more positive pursuits. He left a mark on my life. Thank you Sir!

Mr. Dawe is the reason I have been a teacher for the last 30 years. His sense of humor and way he dealt with us eighth graders made a huge impact on me. His influence lives on through the way he connected with many people.

I was surprised and saddened to read of Mr.Dawe's passing. He was my social studies teacher at Oak Bay Junior and was coach of Carnarvon Pony League All-stars along withe late Bob Burrows Sr and Hap Holmes. He was very knowledgeable and a competitor. He is home now and we will meet again.

I knew Peter as a relative (my mother's cousin), a respected elder when I was growing up and such a friendly personality when I reconnected with he and Lesley in Parksville. In my early teenage years we had a hockey group that would occasionally rent ice in the middle of the night at the Memorial Arena. I asked Peter to come out and referee for us for one of these sessions and true to his kindly nature, he did. So typical of someone who willingly helped others. Our condolences to Lesley at this unfortunate time.

My sincere condolences to Lesley on Peters passing. It was a pleasure being his "D" partner for a few years in the Esquimalt Friday night Oldtimers hockey league. He was a gentleman and a strong competitor.

I remember Peter Dawe as my Social Studies 10 teacher at Oak Bay Jr High. He was one of the first teachers who started the more casual approach to clothing, forgoing the stiff suits for sweaters & open collars.
But that aside, he was a no nonsence teacher, who had complete & total control of his classroom. His hockey experience came into play when he very quickly & successfully broke up a fight in the hallway one morning, between three 15 year old boys. Nobody messed with Peter Dawe!!
And he was also a fellow hockey coach with my Uncle -- Bill Bowles, who died just recently -- Uncle Bill will be very happy to see him again.
My condolences to Mr. Dawe's family.
Sincerely,
Jody Hunter.

First, my sincere condolences to his wife
and twin sister. I knew Peter for many years
and had the pleasure to be involved with
Peter during his years at the then Carnarvon
Pony League culminating in a trip to the Pony League World Series(2nd Annual) in 1969, in Washington, PA of which
Peter was the coach of the team, along with
Bob Burrows Sr., as Publicity Director. Not
only was Peter an excellent coach and hockey
player but a great teacher at the then Oak Bay Junior High(Cadboro Bay Road). It was an honour to know Peter who is now on St. Peter's Team.
