Peter Kimoff Obituary

KIMOFF, Peter On a beautiful spring morning, April 4 2009, Peter Kimoff passed away peacefully. His work on earth was done. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Alice Kimoff; his son Michael; daughters Juliann (Steve) and Rosanne (Richard); grandchildren Rosemary and Jordan; and their dad, Mike MacKenzie. He was predeceased by his daughter Lorilee, in 1989. He also leaves many great friends and customers. His farmboy beginnings gave him the drive and determination to build a very happy, successful, and rewarding life. In 1954, he met Alice Borge and they were married in Victoria BC. Together, they bought a one acre property on Wilkinson Rd., and with a lot of hard work, they built their first family home for their four children. At the same time, he purchased his first tractor, and began working on properties throughout Victoria, eventually forming Kimoff Landscaping Ltd. He landscaped residential and commercial properties throughout Victoria and the island; and as far away as the Fraser Valley and Kamloops. Many reminders of his hard work and talent remain throughout the region. In 1977, Peter had a new project in the works: Kimoff Wholesale Nursery. He began turning a piece of long unused farm land into a successful nursery, growing specimen plant material for landscapes throughout the area. His family will continue the family business that he worked so hard on, just the way he wished. Always having many projects on the go, and not content to sit idle for long, Peter's next big project, in 1997, was moving the old Victoria Plywood water tower to his nursery. Dismantling it and reconstructing it took a few years, but it stands proudly over his nursery today. With other projects under his belt, too numerous to mention, Peter always had a list of things to accomplish in the future. Up to the end, he continued making future plans. With much integrity and wisdom, he was admired by all, and his generosity was felt by many. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to the BC Cancer Agency Vancouver Island Centre. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 2, 2-5pm, Saanich Fair Grounds, 1528 Stelly's Cross Road, Saanichton. Arrangements by First Memorial Services, Royal Oak. 534877

I will miss the great character and humour of Peter on the few occasions each year we did business. His recollections of my father were always welcomed as were his "history lessons and other wisdoms". A singularly dedicated and hard working man. An honour to have met you Peter. God speed.

I am very sorry to hear about Peter's passing. We lived behind the nursery on Welch Rd. for three years. We purchased rhodos from you for our back yard and I will never forget seeing Peter drive them up to our house in his tractor. Peter was kind and generous, a unique personality. He will be greatly missed.
