With great sadness, we announce the passing of Peter Hubert Machek, exceptional father, brother, friend and outdoorsman. Born May 15th, 1951 Peter immigrated to Canada as a small boy with his German and Czechoslovak parents, Margarete and Otto. Growing up in Victoria and on Vancouver Island Peter quickly developed his love for the outdoors, both for hunting and fishing. Following in his father's footsteps, Peter became a journeyman plumber and pipefitter and was a member of the UA Local 324. Peter worked for many family plumbing companies, helped build many of the original Mount Washington Chalets, ran his own business Machek Mechanical, worked out of the Shipyards in Esquimalt and also spent many years working at Cowichan District Hospital. As an avid outdoorsman, some of Peter's greatest accomplishments included building and managing two fishing lodges North Pacific Springs and King Pacific and later, as his two sons were growing up, operating Ocean Mist Retreat Fishing Charters in Port Renfrew. Peter was also a founding member of the Haig Brown Fly Fishing Association and a West Coast Representative for Fish'n Canada where you could frequently read his articles in their published papers or see him on TV showing off his fishing talents and expertise of the local waters.
Peter leaves behind his two sons Patrick and Micheal, his beautiful granddaughter Riley, brother Paul (Marie, Curtis, Christopher), sister Maria (in Czech Republic), his beloved dog Louis and many other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Oyster Harbour Care Home in Ladysmith for their exceptional care and respect for Peter as he battled Lewy Body Dementia Syndrome in his last years.

Please join us at Peter's Celebration of life at the home of Tom and Lael Grierc, August 13th, 2023, from 1pm to 4 pm, 2368 Regina Drive, Duncan, BC. In memory of Peter, donations can be made to the "Pacific Salmon Foundation" (psf.ca) or a charity of one's choice.
