Peter Pronk Obituary

PRONK, Peter (Petrus) January 16, 1934 - March 6, 2022 Peter Pronk, 88, of Shawnigan Lake, BC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6th at home. Born on January 16, 1934, in Weesperkarspel, Netherlands, Peter immigrated to Canada in 1953, and lived most of his life on Vancouver Island. Predeceased by his son, Paul, parents, Joannes and Wilhelmina, and five siblings. Survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Nelly; his children: Ann (George +), Wilma (Andy), John (Diane), Elizabeth (Bruce), Nelly (Dave), and Maria (Cameron); twenty-one grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and two sisters. Peter's legacy was his family. Peter will be fondly remembered by his family as a dedicated farmer and fisherman. Having grown up on a dairy farm in the Netherlands, he used his expertise and affection for farm animals to build his own sheep ranch. Peter could always be found puttering in his vegetable garden and was extremely proud of his asparagus patch. His fishing adventures included salmon fishing on the Kitimat River, constructing his own boat for ocean fishing and crabbing, and tying flies for those elusive trout. A passion for forestry lead to the creation of his own sawmill on his homestead. Cutting timber from the trees on his property, milling lumber in his own sawmill, and erecting numerous barns and outbuildings, while tending to his animals and garden, occupied his retirement years. He will be deeply missed by his family. Private family services were held. To express condolences, share memories and photos, please visit: www.sandsduncan.ca
