Peter Stead Obituary

STEAD, Peter
1930 – 2023
Peter passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2023 surrounded by his family. Peter was born September 22, 1930 and was one of Harry and Maude Stead's seven children. He grew up in Yorkshire, England, moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1948 with his family. He is predeceased by his first wife, Audrey and his brothers, Harry, Alan, and his sister Marjorie. Peter leaves behind a loving family of five children, Penny, Martin (Janet), Stephen (Shannon), Alison (James) and Jeremy (Lindsay), his second wife, Linda, his 3 sisters, Pat, Joan, and Susan and many nieces and nephews. Peter was loved by his 10 grandchildren: Jeffrey, Samantha, Shelby, Trevor (Cloe), Chelsea (Mark), Carey, Alex, Keira, Addison, and Juliette, as well as great grandchildren, Jace, Mason, and Millie.
Peter began his career at BC Tel and worked in Vancouver and Victoria as an engineering supervisor. Peter was instrumental in starting the BC Tel fitness centre in Vancouver and subsequently implementing a fitness facility in Victoria. He retired at 55 and started his own carpentry business and later worked as the handy man at the Penny Farthing Pub, where he was given the title of "Goodwill Ambassador".
Peter was a lifelong athlete. He was a well-known opening bowler in the cricket community in Vancouver and Victoria, and he represented BC numerous times in national tournaments and was chosen to represent Canada in 1954 for a cricket tour of England. His family spent many weekends at Brockton Oval and Douglas Park watching Peter bowl. After he moved to Victoria, Peter began training for marathons and he ran 4 of them, his first one at the age of 50. Peter also enjoyed skiing, tennis, camping, lawn bowling and travelling.
Peter enjoyed classical music, detective novels, British TV, and a cold pint at the Penny Farthing. Peter had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh and spending time with family and friends. He has had a good innings in life as they would say in cricket and touched many lives far and wide. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love, respect, and laughter.

Peter's life will be celebrated at a later date but please raise a glass of Guinness in his honour. Donations in Peter's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
