Phil--always known to us as Uncle Phil, thanks to Benita--was one of the true gentlemen of the world. He was a master of the art of helping others, and will be greatly missed by us and by his many other friends. Fortunately we have photos, many dozens of photos, from Uncle Phil's camera that came with him to so many happy events.
Sandra and I will be in Ontario on Friday and thus will not be able to attend the funeral, but our thoughts and prayers will be with the family.

Bertha, Florence, Valerie, Maureen and your families: Your Father sold me my first portable typewriter which I still have. He was such a gentle, kind man. I always enjoy my visits and conversations with him whenever I visit Victoria. He will be missed and always remembered. My thoughts will be with you, especially on Friday.

I remember Mr. Chan as a generous man, both friend to my Grandfather, and myself. I will remember our conversations at his house, talking about days long past, things to come, and good advice. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Uncle Philip was a great uncle who was always involved with young people and worthy causes. I remember him attending a Scout Father & Son banquet and giving me useful tips on public speaking. He was that kind of person, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others. May he find unspeakable joy with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Comfort and peace to his large family.

My father (Brian Goodwin, d.1988) grew up on Princess Ave. in Victoria. Philip and Leah Chan were his neighbours, living in the house directly behind my grandmothers. My father always spoke so highly of Mr. Chan. He respected him and valued his friendship.
On behalf of my mother and myself, please accept our condolences on your loss,
sincerely,
Christine Mehan and Norma Goodwin
