Philip Redford Obituary
REDFORD, Philip Edward Burdett
April 9, 1931 - July 25, 2025
Phil Redford slipped away peacefully at Creekstone Care Centre in North Vancouver, only six months after the passing of his cherished wife of seventy-one years, Joyce.
Born in Victoria on April 9, 1931, Phil was a versatile athlete, playing soccer, baseball, tennis and badminton, but golf was his passion. Before he reached his 21st birthday, he captured the prestigious Oak Bay Club Championship and was rated one of the best amateur golfers on Vancouver Island. He was a proud member of the Monterey Old Boys (MOB), friendships he established in primary school that lasted his lifetime, all of whom predeceased him. He was the last one standing.
In 1953, he married Joyce Margaret Roome, and they settled briefly in Vancouver, where he worked for Household Finance (HFC). In 1959 they moved to Kimberley, BC, where Phil managed the local branch of HFC and he and Joyce raised their two children, Linda and Dan.
In Kimberley, Phil was involved with the local badminton club, the Lions Club, the Anglican Church and especially the Kimberley Golf Club, where he won every major tournament in the area. Though he had a strong competitive streak, he always won with the utmost humility.
Joyce and Phil moved to North Vancouver in 1979 after a promotion with HFC. He eventually worked with Guaranty Trust, and then in 1989, he joined Nevada Bob's on the North Shore as a director.
He and Joyce enjoyed many years of retirement together, travelling the world, often with their close friends, the Thomas'. Over their lifetimes, they developed many deep and lasting friendships in Kimberley, Vancouver, and Victoria.
Phil is survived by his two children, Linda (Ray Watt), Dan (Jan), his grandson, Aidan Buckley, two step-grandchildren, Jenna and Sam Robinson, his beloved sister, Ann Redford- Nolte, his sister-in-law, Denise Redford, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, scattered
throughout Canada and the U.S.
Thank you to Creekstone (whose moniker for Phil was "Mr. Handsome") for their attentive and loving care of Phil for the past four years.
Phil was one of those guys who lit up the room with his smile and his infectious laugh. He was a kind and loving man and will be sorely missed by us all.
