Philip Thompson Obituary

THOMPSON, Philip Roy
July 22, 1965 - July 23, 2023
With God's will and with my saddened heart that I announce the passing of my son Philip Roy Thompson on July 23, 2023. Phil had happily spent three months in the beautiful Fraser Valley in a Christian residential recovery program. Here he took his teaching and writing seriously, and he also enjoyed the important comradeship of "The Guys".
He studied landscape-horticulture at Camosun College in Victoria and BCIT in Burnaby. He spent over forty years in that field. He loved the sport of hockey, playing on midget to senior teams in the Sooke district. He was an avid 'fly fisherman', and could be often seen on local lakes as well as the Sooke harbour. He enjoyed his days at our summer property in Qualicum Bay where he was handy to the lakes and the ocean.
Phil is predeceased by his father, Roy, his grandparents Susie and George Sabean.
He is survived by his brother Troy, and his mother Barbara.
He will always be in our hearts.

I was saddened to hear Phil has left this world. He was our neighbour for many years. We bought the house owned by his parents for many years. We saw some of his awesome flies (for fly fishing) and his wicked record collection too. He was always very friendly and so interesting to talk to. My heart goes out to his mom Barbara and his brother Troy

I am gutted. This was hard to see. Phil was ALWAYS friendly,( except as a rugged defense man ) and happy to see you. I hadn't seen him in a while, but the last time I saw him, he greeted me with his familiar " Hey Sivy". I will miss that . My sincere condolences to his brother Troy , his mother and all his friends.

Such sad news. It´s been 50 years, but I still remember Phil in Grade 3. He never walked the halls, always "skated" instead! He also started the trend of putting hoochies (minus the hook) on pencils, causing us to do the same, raiding our dads´ tackle boxes!

Condolences to Troy and Mrs Thompson.

Phil, I will miss you. We reconnected not long ago and even after a break of 35 years your kind heart, humour and love of music made it easy to pick up where we left of. During my early 20s you where a anchor for me, keeping me grounded when I went a little too far off the straight and narrow. You helped me get my first job, and gave me rides home on those rainy Metchosin nights. I will forever be grateful for our friendship. I will miss you. Phil. Mrs. Thompson you have my deepest sympathies, your son will always have special place in my heart.

My Condolences to the Thompson Family, very saddened of the news, I was very lucky to play hockey with Phil for about 15 years, Phil was a Sooke Hawk for many years, ( We called him the Big Swede, he was fun to be around ) he was a great defence man but more importantly a awesome team mate and great guy, be the first guy to stand up for somebody. First guy to cheer you up. Rest in Peace, Have a Drink with Randy, Mark, and Wayne.Forever a Sooke Hawk.

I am very shocked saddened to hear of Phil's passing. I will always have my memories of time spent with him. Hockey, Fishing, Music discussions, our mutual admiration of Sabbath (Rock on Phil), and just having fun, he was always competitive and I am better for having met him.
