Phillippa Kerr Obituary

1922-2013

KERR, Phillippa Janet

Passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria on April 23, 2013 in her 91st year. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand she left her homeland in 1948 for England where she practiced nursing and trained as a midwife. In 1956 she relocated to Canada working in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta and BC. In Victoria she taught at the St. Joseph's School of Nursing and served in senior management roles in the BC Ministry of Health. She earned a Bachelor Science in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario.

Both modern and traditional, 'Mrs. Kerr' used email as well as regular mail to maintain connections with others worldwide, was passionate about conservation, had many diverse interests and hobbies and embraced life to the fullest. She touched the lives of many and will be sorely missed.

Phillippa was predeceased by her husband James in 2006. She is survived by her sister Romola (Selwyn), nieces Susan (Randy), Debbie, Phillippa (Eugene) and Janet (Cal), nephew Michael (Jane), nieces-in-law Barbara and Jennifer, and many friends and other family members in Canada and abroad.

A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Home, 1155 Fort Street, Victoria, at 2:00 pm on Friday May 31, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favourite charity.

Phillippa was a beautiful woman - inside and out. I think of her often, treasure our friendship - although it was only a few short years - and will carry her in my heart forever. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to her family.
