R. Cormie Obituary

CORMIE, R. David S. December 14th, 1951 - April 29th, 2022 It is with such deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David, on April 29th, 2022, family by his side. David is survived by and deeply missed by his loving wife of 28 wonderful years, Lorraine; by his brother Gordon (Drew); sister-in-law Wendy Burghardt (Ralph); brother-in-law Kenneth Humeston; sons Matthew (Christine) and Paul (Jennifer); grandchildren Olivia, Liam, Henry and Madeline; family of friends; nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Phyllis; his brother George; father and mother-in-law, George and Gwen Humeston; nephew Jordan Marklund; sister-in-law Linda Bocking; loving aunts, uncles and cousins. David was born in Calgary, Alberta, and in his teen years, relocated to Montreal with his parents. From Montreal, David worked his dream job during the summers for CN on west bound passenger trains. David served 35 years with the Federal Government starting his career with the R.C.M.P. David's posting in Manitoba led to his transfer to Canada Customs (C.B.S.A), settling there to raise his family. With Canada Customs, David transferred west to Vancouver Island, first stationed in Port Alberni and then Victoria. From there David married Lorraine, the love of his life. David was highly regarded as a Customs Inspector, instrumental in the early development of the Telephone Reporting System for vessels, predecessor to systems used today. David was honoured upon receiving his Exemplary Service Medal bestowed upon him for his valuable and dedicated service. The passion David had for trains continued throughout his life. David was a highly regarded member of the Vancouver Island Model Engineers, serving terms as president, editor of the Safety Valve, and other trackside positions. David had the incredible ability to build anything, perfectly. He was always such a loving, kind, passionate, funny, gentle soul. David and Lorraine cherished their travels abroad to Mexico, and relaxing camping trips closer to home. Every pet David loved, and they loved him back. Your loving presence here will be so very dearly, deeply missed, David, love of my life. There will be a Celebration of Life held for David at Heritage Acres, S.H.A.S., later this summer. Lorraine please accept our condolences for you and your family. I enjoyed working with Dave during our time together at Customs. Dave's sense of humour got me a few time over the years and I will always remember him for those moments. Working with Dave and Mike Pitre on moving the telephone reporting system into what is today was and exciting and memorable time. He was a good person and I feel fortunate to have known him.
