Rhuna Mackay Obituary

Rhuna Mackay of Sidney, B.C. passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Broadmead Lodge, where she spent the last 13 years of her life.
Rhuna faced her final years with advanced dementia - a cruel contrast to the fierce independence, determination, and strength of will that had defined her for decades.
Born May 25, 1936, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Norman and Violet Flett, Rhuna grew up with a strong sense of purpose and self-reliance. She was predeceased by her brother, Erland, and by her beloved husband Jack, to whom she was married for 57 years, in 2018.
Rhuna is survived by her children John (Trisha) Mackay and Katrina (Hans) van den Bosch, and by her grandchildren Alessandra, Olivia, Noll, Ruby, and Katey.
After marrying Jack on May 19, 1961, Rhuna left Scotland to begin a life of remarkable global adventure. The family followed Jack's banking career to London, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Chicago, and finally Canada, settling in Sidney, B.C. in 1979. Along the way, Rhuna built resilience through constant change, raising her family while adapting to new cultures and countries with grace and courage.
Her professional life reflected that same drive. Beginning her career in London with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, Rhuna later reinvented herself in sales and marketing, working alongside Jack when they founded Regency Custom Marble Products. Her unmistakable Scottish accent became a familiar and welcome presence on construction sites throughout Greater Victoria. After selling Regency, Rhuna continued to contribute to her community through her role on the board of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation and through ongoing work with friends across the construction industry, including Lazlo Rossini Kitchens, Fuzzy Wuzzy Floor Coverings, and Slegg Lumber.
Rhuna was admired for her work ethic, her loyalty, and her quiet toughness. The family would like to thank Bonnie for all her care and compassion in spending time with Rhuna at Broadmead.
Rhuna and Jack lived in Deep Cove, where they enjoyed the peaceful years they had earned after a lifetime of effort and movement.
A private family memorial will be held. No public service is planned.
