Richard Dowsling Obituary
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Richard Dowsling. He died at peace as the sun rose and the darkness fell on August 30th at the age of 86. His battle with Parkinson's in his later life took away many things he loved to do, but his humor and fighting spirit remained strong. Richard loved to go on walks, entertain friends with a beautiful dinner and listen to Rock and Roll. He grew up on a farm in Durham Ontario and was raised by a strong and resourceful single mother Rebecca Pilkey. He left the farm in his teens and joined the Navy. In the Navy he rose in the ranks to Lieutenant Commander (N) and was immensely proud of his achievement. He moved to Victoria where he met his wife, Deborough of 40 years. Together the two had many traveling adventures, lived life to the fullest and showed the world what it means to love and be loved. Richard is predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Horwil, his mother Rebecca Pilkey (George) and father Gordon Dowsling as well as his older brother Harry Dowsling and sister Anne Hatton. Richard touched the lives of many friends and his loving family. His absence has created a hole too large to fill. He will be sadly missed by his wife Deborough Dowsling, his oldest daughter Debbie Nanson (Mike) children, Ryan, Dayna and Richelle, his middle daughter Cindy Kind her children, Annalyn, Jason, his daughter Sherri Fawcett (Gord) their children, Alexis, Callum, and his son Kevin Munroe (Kelly) grandchildren, Cora, Gio, Jude, great grandchildren, Nia, and Roman. He also leaves behind his youngest sister Jan Dowsling, as well as, many adoring nephews and nieces. A life of living can never be summed up in words, but our memories allow the person to stay with us. Celebration of Life to follow.
