Richard SMITH Obituary

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Richard (Rick) James Smith. Born in Victoria to Dorothy and Dick, Rick grew up in Cordova Bay where he participated in soccer, hockey, fast-pitch softball, as well as dirt biking, windsurfing, demo-derby and BMX with friends Lou and Pete. He was employed by Ralmax until a life-altering car accident in 1997. He resided in Nigel House from 2016 until his passing. Predeceased by mother Dorothy, father Dick, brother Mike, sister-in-law Peg. Survived by brother Ken, sister-in-law Kathleen, nieces Ashleigh (Pat), Michaela (Jake), great-niece Sawyer, and children Nick and Emily. Many thanks to all Drs, nurses and especially to all the Nigel House staff for the wonderful care and friendship over the years. Celebration of life will be at First Memorial Royal Oak June 22nd at 2:00pm.

So very sad Rick had amazing sense of humor we were close friends in school i remember hanging out at the pit elk lake and all over Cordova Bay we all got into all kinds od trouble together I think of you often Rick. Derrick Anderson

Having had the privilege to support the Smith family and Rick during Dick´s final year, I´m deeply moved recalling the profound love between father and son. Rejoicing in the thought that Rick and Dad are reunited. Rest in peace, Rick.

Getting to visit with Rick was one of my joys when I worked as chaplain/spiritual support person at Nigel House. We always had such thoughtful and often fun conversations. May the joy that he emanated enfold all who are missing him.

Rick taught me to ride a dirt bike! I got my first 100cc bike from him to ride around the school yard. My brother would follow Rick and his buddies into the school bushes in hopes of watching the jump their bmx bikes!
