THOMAS, Richard "Rick" Picton
May 1944 - August 4, 2025
"Green sphagnum mattress, sword fern and willow blanket, like a wolf I slept".
~ Rick Thomas
Those are Rick's words, and they capture him perfectly - wild at heart, always at home in the natural world.
Rick was born in Cardiff, Wales and came to Victoria, B.C. with his family in 1953. He studied at Vic High and the Vancouver School of Art and spent his life creating: paintings, illustrations, theatre sets, murals, sculptures, books. He was always sketching, always curious. He traveled widely, loved Paris, and found friends everywhere.
He is survived by his daughter Kim (David), sister Gillian (Nancy), and his niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Bella, and siblings Vivian, Joan, Margaret, and Michael.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Messages at:
