Rita BROWN Obituary
It is with a sad heart that we say goodbye to our beloved mom, Rita Brown, who passed away peacefully on December 25, 2021 in Victoria, BC at the age of 92. Predeceased by her husband Harry Brown in 2002, she leaves behind her loving children Suzi Benn (Kevin), Jim Schell (Donna) and Karen Jensen (David) and sister Joy Howell (Dave). Predeceased by siblings Louise, Clare and Clifford. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Jess, Ben, Jake and Alex as well as her great-grandchildren, Shelby and Kameron.
Rita was born in New Westminster, BC to Norwegian immigrant parents, Leif and Edith Bentzen. During her youth she spent many summers with friends enjoying the beaches of White Rock, often sending postcards, inviting her mother to join the girls at the beach. Rita's father was a commercial fisherman and she and brother Clifford would run the boat, catching salmon on the Fraser River for summer money.
Rita was a skilled bookkeeper and a whiz with numbers. She was an avid reader and could always be found working on the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper. When her husband Harry was alive, they enjoyed many a Saturday evening going out with friends and dancing at McMorran's. Ever the stylish dresser, you rarely found her not dressed up and wearing her lipstick! Rita loved to volunteer at the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria, helping in the kitchen making matzo balls with her friends or working the JCCV food kiosk during Folkfest. Rita was a woman with a kind heart, wonderful smile and the best sense of humor. She always had a joke to tell. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her family. She was laid to rest on December 27 beside her husband, Harry at the Jewish Cemetery in Victoria. May she Rest in Peace.
We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Kiwanis Pavilion for the superb care they provided during the past 14 months.
