Ritha Mason Obituary
MASON, Ritha Elizabeth Passed away May 6, 2017, age 79. Born 1937 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Early in life, Ritha served with the RCN as a wren officer. Her life long passion for art made her a perennial student in Canada, England, Norway, Japan and China. Ritha's family moved to Victoria, BC in 1978. She went on to achieve a Bachelors degree in fine arts and a Masters degree in education at UVIC. Her art often focused on environmental issues, making Ritha an advocate for reusing or recycling materials whenever possible. Ritha was predeceased by her husband of 53 years (John). She is survived by her three children, Jane, James and Jon and eight grandchildren.

I'm so sorry to hear of Ritha's passing. I met her at UVic's Department or Writing and at the weekly Planet Earth Poetry readings in Victoria. She was a kind and always curious presence in the hallways and among the poetry audiences.

I have known Ritha for many years. She was a lovely person who managed to keep everyone cheerful when they were with her.
