Robert Bader Obituary

BADER, Robert "Bob" November 1, 1940 - November 11, 2018 Bob's unexpected time of passing into eternal peace caught us all off guard. His final peace after a few months of unknowns was a lesson for us all: Be prepared. Married 56 years to Marlene (Butcher), whom he met 75 years ago at the tender age of 3. Bob spent 25 years in the military as an electrician on various ships, then worked for a number of years in Dockyard as an electrician and was president of the union for a time. His sense of fairness to employees was paramount in his thinking and he followed through to help those who needed a voice. Bob's faith in God became a living reality about 18 years ago. He lived it, in a quiet and unassuming way. Even as his wife I met a new Bob who, over 18 years, settled into a contented and settled soul. He was seen and known as a caring, knowledgeable person. A heartfelt thank you to all in the VGH Emergency ward for your professional yet touching sensitivity to Bob and his medical needs. To you Dr. Roos, for your astuteness to an overlooked problem. To pastor Don Johnson and Debbi; a steadfast love you both live - of which Bob gained much in his final hours. To you all at Grace Baptist for your prayers, which were answered, Bob now rests in God, and was ready - expressed that in such a verbal way. Loving father of Raymond, Leann (Randy Cairns), Dennis (Angela), and Sandra (Randall Smithson). Devoted papa of Jessica, Daina, Sarah and Matthew. Dear brother of Sue (Ron Robinson), and brother-in-law to Yvonne Bradstock and the late Jacquie (Brian) Schaufele. Loving neighbour to Glenn and Anna Maglio, Chris Waters and Tom McCarthy. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel-Colwood, 317 Goldstream Ave., on Thursday, November 22, 2018 from 1:00-4:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church, 2731 Matson Rd. Langford, BC. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial to take place at Hatley Memorial Gardens.

Bob and I worked in the electrical department on HMCS Margaree or Yukon. It has been many years and memories dim with time. He was a good shipmate and, like him, I also worked in dockyard electrical shops. My condolences to the family. My time will soon be here as I am now 88! Another shipmate has crossed over the bar. Bob was a great shipmate of which I have fond memories. He was caring and had a kind word to all whom crossed his path. He has crossed the gangway one last time to Rest in Peace. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Bobs passing. I have fond memories of life on James Island, when Bob used to babysit my younger brother and me and when he took us all on hay rides. My husband has great memories of sailing with Bob. Our prayers are with you, God Bless. John and Gail Ellerton (Roper)
