Robert BICKFORD Obituary

BICKFORD Robert John (Bob) born April 19, 1929. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our wonderful father on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, doing what he loved best fishin'. Predeceased by the love of his life, Pat, after 51 years of marriage, in 1999; he is survived and sorrily missed by his 'three good kids', Ann, Carol and Charlie; their respective spouses, Don, John and Junell; his beloved grandkids Leanna, Jared, Jacki,Hayley, Katie and Mandy; a new little great grandson, Mark; as well as many nieces and nephews who were so special to him, his dear sister-in-law, Marge, family in England, many, many friends and last but not least his 'co-pilot', Tippy. Born and raised in James Bay, he worked the waterfront for over 40 years and loved the outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, swimming or gardening, he was in his element. He was a very skilled and knowledgeable outdoorsman and yet also a terrific cook, taking pride in what he learned from Mom and what he had picked up from 'bachin' it' on his own. Dad was a true 'gentle giant' gruff on the outside at times but a softie on the inside. He was a man of great integrity. One cannot beginto count the number of lives Dad has touched, enriched and encouraged over the years. Always willing to help a friend, he had a generous and sharing nature and was very proud of his family. He was also a great tease and always had a twinkle ofmischief in his eyes. Needless to say we are devastated by Dad's passing but take some comfort in knowing we are not alone Dad meant so much to so many and that in itself is a testament to a great man. A great big thank you to those friends and family who helped Dad after Mom's passing and encouraged him to continue to enjoy life. Thank you also to the U.S. Coast Guard and the Sooke R.C.M.P. for their speedy assistance in Dad's time of need. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 13, at the Church of Our Lord, 626 Blanshard Street, Victoria, B.C. at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Rod Ellis officiating. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to any one of his favourite charities, Juvenile Diabetes, Victoria Hospice or Providence Farm, 1843 Tzouhalem Rd., Duncan, B.C. V9L 5L6.
