Robert CAMERON Obituary

It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert Hugh Cameron.
Bob passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital from a short battle with cancer.

Bob leaves behind his son Dean (Angela), daughter Diane (Jennifer), his grandchildren Keith, Brooke and Lindsey, former wife Lee, brother Stuart (Dawn); predeceased brother Rodd and nephew Rhys.

Bob was a Civil Engineer with the Provincial Government; he loved his job. He made many life-long friends working with the Government, he cherished all these friendships. If you had the honor of knowing Bob, you knew what an eccentric human he was. Dad loved to putter in his garden for hours, we never knew exactly what he was trying to accomplish but it made him happy. He loved to fix things and could build anything. He built two beautiful cedar strip row boats for each of his kids. Dad's love for his kids and grandchildren was paramount. He enjoyed spending time with them and he loved his trips to the dollar store with his granddaughter. Dad loved taking his family to Kye Bay in the summers where he would spend most of the day sleeping in the sun, only to wake to enjoy Sieffert's corn.

Dad loved to ride his old Raleigh 3 speed bike down the Pat Bay highway in the winter with his short sleeves and no helmet, in hopes the police would pull him over to give him a ticket for not wearing a helmet. He took great joy in wasting the court's time fighting these tickets. Incessant ranting and raving were one of dad's hobbies, he was passionate about bad drivers and untimed traffic lights.

Thank you to all the wonderful caring nurses at Victoria Hospice and Saanich Peninsula Palliative Care Unit. All the care Dad received was truly exceptional, thank you for making his last few weeks comfortable. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Victoria Hospice or Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation.
Go for a bike ride, stop for ice cream, and have a nap in the sun.
Love you Dad

I was a friend of Bob's in the 1970's with the Alpine Club in Victoria. We did a number of climbing trips and ski trips together. I was scanning my old slides and decided to google Bob's name to see if I could make contact with him.
I am sorry to discover his passing. My condolences to the family.
I have some more pictures of Bob from those times. If anyone is interested in getting them I would be happy to oblige. Please contact me at my email address.

To The Cameron Family,
I was so sorry to read of the passing of Bob. I had the great pleasure of knowing Bob for 30+ years when I worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Boag, Dr. Ward, and finally Dr. Foulkes. Every time Bob came into our office, he always had a smile on his face, and would enlighten us with a funny story about something he had recently done or made. He was definitely one of my most favorite patients.
The pride and love that Bob had for his family was always so very evident, and his eyes would always light up when he spoke about any of you.
I will always remember Bob with much fondness...he was a good man and a true gentleman. My thoughts are with you all at this very sad and difficult time.

Mr. Cameron (Bob), you will be missed by your family, relatives, friends, and by me ! I was there at there house in Cordova Bay, lot’s during the week, mostly after school. Watching dukes of hazard, with dean, or playing outside in the yard, or in the gravel pit ! Hearing, he died after I found out, was like a hit to my gut a bit ! As, at times, it felt like Mr. Cameron was like another father, or father figure to me. I don’t like to say good bye too often, I always say see you later. But, in this case, I say these words chocking up some, good bye Mr. Cameron, so long !

Rest In Peace Bob. It has been our pleasure having you included in our family these past 20 years. Talking about British comedies on DVD’s, reading and exchanging books and spending time with you and the family at Kye Bay where you always loved to cook Siefferts corn on the cob and getting Angie’s birthday cake iced. You shall be missed by many. Till we meet again dear friend, Dave and Sylvie

Dad (Aub Brown) and Bob worked a long time together in the Provincial Govt and became good friends, a friendship which continued long after both retired. Bob was a great guy with a big heart and a sharp wit. He’ll be greatly missed.
