Robert Dinsdale Obituary
Robert Keith Dinsdale, 93, a beloved grandfather, father and friend, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Victoria, B.C.
Keith was born on August 31, 1931, to Bartholomew and Olive Dinsdale (née Towler) in Stainforth, North Yorkshire, England. He grew up on a farm in the town of Waddington, near Clitheroe. Keith moved to Canada in 1949, ultimately settling in Victoria and became a master carpenter and cabinet maker, as well as developed a passion for many recreational interests, including motorcycles and ballroom dancing.
Entering a new chapter of life, Keith became a family man. Married to Helen Dinsdale for 25 years, he raised a son and daughter and was a proud, principled, and dedicated father. For his children his steadfast presence was a gift; his absence leaving an unfillable void but also a profound appreciation for the man he was, the time they shared together, and the cherished memories that remain.
Throughout his life, Keith was a hard-working, self-made, do-it-yourself kind of guy. Renovating residences, crafting furniture, repairing cars and motorcycles, and frankly fixing whatever needed fixing. And there were no "Mickey Mouse" solutions. If a job was worth doing, it was worth doing right!
To his character, he was a man of his word. His handshake was his bond.
To his neighbours, friends and family, Keith was generous with his time and could always be relied on to lend a tool, share his expertise, or simply help out with whatever was needed.
One of the youngest children in a large family, Keith is predeceased by his parents and siblings Madge, John, Olive, Geoffrey and Noel. He is survived by his children Geoffrey (Nicole Kudryk) Dinsdale and Katrina Glass, grandchildren Oliver and Haydon, brother Christopher (Jennifer), as well as many nieces and nephews.
From buildings to crafted furniture, to the many lives he touched along the way, Keith's legacy lives on in the city he so enjoyed and chose to make his home.
A small, informal celebration of life will be held Monday, July 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria.
