Robert Gibb Obituary

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Robert (Bob) Gibb, at his home in Sidney, B.C., at the age of 95.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Gale Harrison (Chuck), his son Bob Gibb, his daughter Barbara Gibb (Mike), his son Bill Gibb (Marc), his eight grandchildren and their spouses, his four great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Helen Gagnon, as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey, his three siblings, Don, Margaret and Allan and his daughter-in-law, Sandi Gibb.

Bob was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and married Audrey (nee Bruce) in 1943. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1945, Bob and Audrey settled in Edmonton and raised four children. They made a loving home, filled with laughter. The family enjoyed long summer days at the cottage by the lake. Bob worked for many years as a supervisor for Edmonton Telephones. After retiring, he and Audrey moved to Sidney, B.C. and then to Pender Island, B.C., where they lived for 18 years. On Pender Island, they built two homes which became popular gathering spots for family and friends. While living there, Bob loved to take his boat out to fish for salmon. He and Audrey eventually moved back to Sidney, B.C. Bob will be remembered as a kind and considerate man who found great happiness in his entire family. He loved to laugh and nurture friendships, he was a true gentleman and the best father a family could have. At Bob's request there will be no funeral, but rather a small family memorial.

So sad to recently have heard about your dad's passing. He was such a lovely man. I have happy memories of both him and your mom. My Mom and Dad spent a great many of their anniversaries celebrating together as they were only days apart. I believe he was one of my dad's best friends.

Bye Bye Uncle Bob! You were always on a pedestal to me, together with your brothers and sister. Gentle, relaxed humour and genuine interest in our affairs always made us kids feel comfortable and welcome in Edmonton, at the Lake, on Pender and later Victoria. I hope that we have succeeded in passing the Gibb values and Genteel to our own families. Thank you for setting the bar for us.
With lasting love, niece Jackie Swanson

Julie Isaac here...
I too remember the "Poker Gang" our folks all had great times together. I will forever remember the stories told recounting the fun between Gibb's, Barnett's, Foster's, McCutcheon's, Williamson's, later Mr. Campbell.....
Edmonton tel was like an extended family, there was a sense of belonging with so many people there. There is a sense of the end of an Era with the loss of your father. Your Dad was loved and respected dearly by extended family-folks from the Poker Gang and ed tel !
A fabulous place for story telling was Pender Island. Such a perfect location for the memorial.

Hello,
My name is Jennifer Howard and my Dad was James (Jim) Barnett.
He and Bob were friends for many, many years not only through work at Edmonton Telephones but they also enjoyed (along with other good friends) so much wonderful comraderie playing poker. I remember how they would rotate to each other's homes for their games and how the wives would cook a great meal that the men would enjoy after the game was finished! My Dad fondly referred to the group as the "poker gang"!
I spoke with Bob just a couple of weeks ago to inform him of my own Dad's passing on March 3rd at 95 years of age as well.
I wish to extend the family my sincere sympathy. We are all very fortunate to have had such wonderful Dads, Grandads and Great Grandads.
