Robert Grainger Obituary

GRAINGER, Robert Keith C.D. November 6, 1935 June 12, 2007 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, uncle and friend in Victoria, B. C. on June 12, 2007. Keith was born and raised in Moose Jaw where he attended King Edward, Ross and A.E. Peacock. After a short time with the C.P.R., at the age of 19, Keith decided to join the navy. Following basic training in Halifax, Keith served at Edmonton, Cold Lake and Naden. Keith served aboard 8 navy destroyers: H.M.C.S.' St. Therese, Oshawa, Margaree, Assiniboine, Qu'Appelle, Chaudiere, Yukon and Saskatchewan. Keith was a very proud and loyal member of the armed forces. Keith received his 25 year certificate upon retiring from the navy in 1980 and then continued to serve at the C.F.B. Esquimalt Tool Crib. When Keith decided to finally retire and no longer punch a clock, he had served for 40 years. Keith had a love for a great story, whether it was one-on-one, a great movie or factual stories of W.W.II. Keith's large collection of historical war volumes have been donated and accepted by the base library at C.F.B. Esquimalt. He was passionate about human rights, our civil liberties and was a very proud Canadian. Keith was easily engaged in a political discussion and was deeply affected by our current losses of service men and women overseas. He shared his unique sense of humor and kindness with everyone he met. Above all, Keith was intensely loyal and generous with his love for his family. Distance was never a hindrance for Keith to send his love to us at home. Keith was predeceased by his father, Robert James (March 22, 1971) and his mother Agnes (February 14, 2001). Left to mourn and deeply miss our brother are Ian and wife Vi of McLean, SK, and sister Muriel and husband Colin of Moose Jaw, SK. Keith was a kind and generous uncle to Heather and Dan Owens and family, Brent and Monika Grainger and family, Brenda and Mitch Bauck, Pam and John Foster and family, Chere and Shawn Gilbert and family and Dave Howard. We will treasure and hold dear our memories of a very special man. Our brother, our friend, our protector, we will miss you more than mere words can convey. As well as his loving family in Saskatchewan, Keith will be dearly missed by his special circle of friends in Victoria that he met on his daily rounds. Special mention to his best friends Rose and Mirek Prusa, his other" family at Chapter's and his long time friend Jim Munro and those he touched we have yet to meet. Cremation was performed and his ashes, along with a beautiful bouquet of his favorite roses were scattered at sunset on the Pacific Ocean at Victoria, BC. McCall Bros. Funeral Directors, 1400 Vancouver Street, Victoria, BC, V8V 3W3 assisted our family in our time of loss. 387826
