Robert Henderson Obituary

HENDERSON, Robert Daniel

Bob was born to Clara and Harmon Henderson in Campbell River on April 7, 1941. At the age of 84 he passed away suddenly at home in Chemainus on February 4, 2026. He is survived by his wife Penny and many family and friends.

Bob and his brother Walter came to Chemainus when Bob was aged 4, spending most of his formative years in the Cowichan Valley. He graduated from Chemainus High School in 1961. Bob married Evelyn (Penny) Holden at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Somenos. Moving to Youbou, Bob worked for BCFP, Youbou Sawmill (Plywood Div.) eventually transferring to the BCFP Plywood Plant in Victoria. Later he took a position at Bamberton Cement Plant, Mill Bay. In 1977 he moved to North Delta as part of the start up team for Lehigh Heidelberg Cement Group, the new cement plant. In 1978 he travelled to France and later to Ontario, training for his new position as Lab Shift Analyst. He retired in 2006.

Bob volunteered with the Cobble Hill Fire Dept. in the 1970's and with the North Delta Police in 1978 and lastly with the Chemainus Communities in Bloom for over 10 years.

Bob was an active member of both St. Cuthbert's Church, Delta and St. Michael All Angels Church, Chemainus.

Bob was a very talented artist. He enjoyed researching family history and had an appreciation for nice vehicles and trains. Time spent with his wife Penny of over 62 years was what he loved the most.

Bob was very supportive of the family, Lewis and Ella Holden, Jim and Wendy, Jan and Ron, their children and grandchildren. He took special delight in new baby Brandt.

A special thank you to First Responders, RCMP, Dr. Reverend Norman Knowles, and to family and friends (Jan, Ron, Jim, Wendy, Kelly, Bruce, Helen, Phyllis, Bill, Mary and St. Michael All Angels Church family) who were so very kind for all their help.

We are fortunate to have so many fun and happy memories of Bob which we will always cherish. Always loved and remembered…….till we meet again.

A service will be held on February 28 at St. Michael and All Angels Church in Chemainus at 1:00 pm.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation.
