Robert KETTERER Obituary

KETTERER, Robert Walter October 9, 1924 March 1, 2012 It is with deep sorrow in all of our hearts, that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, who was taken home to Heaven. He was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, always a prairie boy at heart. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Mary Joy and his first born son, Robert. He will be forever in the hearts of his children, Dave (Dianne), Debbie, and Bruce (Kathleen); his grandsons Mathew, Kevin and Jacob; his niece Marie; his honourary daughter Lynn; relatives and faithful friends. Robert, in his early twenties, seeking adventure and a new life for himself, left the prairies and headed west for BC in 1946, where he worked in a sawmill in Prince George. A year later he moved to Vancouver to become a log inspector for the BCFP. His career then took him to Victoria where he met Mary Joy on a blind date at Mings Restaurant and six months later, were married and began their life and family together. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and we could not have asked for any other. He was our Special Pops". He was gentle, patient, generous and compassionate; he wore his heart on his sleeve. He supported and encouraged us throughout our lives and loved us unconditionally until the moment he died. We were so richly blessed to have had a Dad such as him. We and the world have lost an amazing man. Robert was always willing to help others in his own unique ways; give a hand wherever it was needed. We all so admired and respected him for who he was. He was a committed volunteer for years with Compassionate Warehouse, Mediland and a faithful sponsor with World Vision for over 30 years, desiring to make a difference in the lives of children. We believe he did. He was a man who knew and placed his faith in a loving God. His life, to us, was a testimony to such a faith. We want to say Thank You to ALL at Christ the King and Church of the Nazarene, who nurtured his faith; you know who you are.so Bless you. Robert had such a positive outlook and attitude toward life. He was a going concern at 87, so active, social and interested in everything. Family always came first though and then his adorable dog, Silah forever at his side, bringing him much joy and comfort. It is these relationships that mattered most to Dad. He will be forever cherished and loved. We pray that the echo of his giggle" resounds in your hearts and bring a smile to your face in the coming days. We do love you Dad; all our love; all our lives". Dave, Debbie, Bruce and families. A private family service is forthcoming. However, friends are cordially invited to pay respects at a visitation being held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive on Wednesday, March 7, 2010 between 4 pm and 5 pm. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. 650604

To Bob's Family,

We all were shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's death. He was a beloved friend and supporter of the Compassionate Resource Warehouse. I can see him sitting at a table in a cold warehouse in Colwood sorting shoes. stools of thread, tying crutches, walkers and wheelchairs for shipment. His sparkling eyes and great smile warmed our hearts.

At our senior's meeting called "SHARPS" he entered in all activities and asked many questions and gave thoughtful answers in the Bible Study.

He will be greatly missed by a host of friends at church and the Warehouse.

God bless you all as you remember this loving father and grandfather. You have a wonderful heritage.

Bill and Mae Bahan and the rest of the Warehouse and SHARPS friends.

David, Debbbie, Bruce and family
When we heard that Uncle Bob had passed away we didn't want to believe it. When we had stopped by in the summer a few years ago - he welcomed us with open arms - his big grin and giggles; so full of life. Our kids got to me him and Shilo. You are all in our thoughts and prayers - God bless you all.

I had many wonderful times with Bob and Mary for over 55 years, saw you children grow up into fine adults. I'll miss the luncheons and card games (3l) we enjoyed with our mutual friends Betty & Bill, once a month. Will also miss Bob at "Happy Hour" at the Condo. Children, just remember your father was loved by all here. Take care.
