Robert LATIMER Obituary

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Latimer in the morning hours of January 16, 2024, at Victoria Hospice. He was 63 years old and just shy of his 64th birthday.
Born January 18, 1960, in Edmonton, AB., Bob grew up camping and fishing with his Dad and brothers. He was an enthusiastic football player throughout his high school years and enjoyed playing outdoor hockey in the winter. Bob loved fishing here off Sooke and was out trying for halibut any chance he could with his brothers and closest friends.
Bob moved to Victoria in his early 20's where he spent his career in the fence industry building residential and commercial fences. In 2014 Bob helped build and manage a fence company based out of the West Shore where he has become widely known in the industry as well as the community for his hard work and dedication.
On June 26, 1986, Bob became a volunteer member of the Langford Fire Department #1 Hall. Bob made many friends and always loved to share stories from this time of his life. He was promoted to volunteer Lieutenant in November 1992 and stayed with the department until July 1993.
He is survived by children: Tara (Patrick), Amanda (Josh), Jimmie, and two grandchildren: Jackson and Mackenzie, and brothers, Larry, Keith (Cindy), Aaron (Stephanie), and sister, Paulette (Dale).
Bob was taken from us too soon, and the family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Victora Cancer Clinic, Community Home Support nursing team, and Victoria Hospice for their immense support during the short time Bob had left.
A Celebration of Life for all family and friends close to Bob will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Royal Canadian Legion (Langford Branch), 761 Station Ave.
Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never
be more than a thought apart,
far as long as there is memory,
they'll live on in the heart.

We are deeply saddened by Bob´s passing and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Bob was a great friend and stood as groomsman at our wedding in 1986. We hold dear our memories of hunting trips, white water rafting, long nights playing Risk, and watching Oilers games during the Gretzky era. The warmth and sincerity of his smile was felt deeply by everyone in the room . May he always rest peacefully.

I am one of the Latimer boys. Growing up my cousins we spent so much time together. At each other's houses, Auntie Ruth's and especially the cabin at Alberta Beach. Bob and I even double dated. It was a sad time when they moved West and I'm sorry we lost touch. Bob was an awesome guy and his passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all.

Sending our condolences to The family. We have known Bob from the Fire Dept, my wife looked after the kids and of course we were neighbours for a short time. May the memories you share help ease the loss of a wonderful man! Rest in peace dear friend.

I first met Bob at work about 18 years ago. People told me he was hard to get along with but we always seemed to be able to have a laugh. Guess we're both hard to get along with! We'd bump into each other here and there in town over the years and always be happy we did, always a smile and a quick catch up chat. Over the past 7 years, Bob would come in to my workplace once in a while and we'd always take some time to talk about life's ups and downs. Bob is one of the nicest people I've met and he will be missed. I was lucky to have known him.

Our sincere condolences, we were saddened to hear Bob has passed away. He was our neighbor at Shawnigan Lake. We often said I wish Bob still lived there.
He would stop in from time to time and always enjoyed his visits.
RIP Bob

I am shocked and saddened to see this. I hadn't spoken to Bob for several months but Bob was always there when needed with that big booming smiley voice. I first met Bob when he was at VI Rentals and then did business with him later with the fencing company. Your expertise and friendship will be missed. RIP Bob

We are so saddened by the news of Bob´s passing. We first met him 7 years ago when we bought our new property in Metchosin and he has been our friend and "fence guy" ever since for our family and any friends that were in need of his services. He was a kind man and very hardworking who was honest and professional in his work life - just a genuine guy who operated with integrity. He was always fun to be around, he had a good sense of humour. He went above and beyond for our family on more than one occasion which was sincerely appreciated. We will miss "our fence guy" but more so we will miss being able to reach out and hear his friendly voice at the other end of the phone. Our sincere condolences to his family, he will be missed. May he rest in peace. Steve and Brenda Ireland
