Robert McCUE Obituary

Robert Junior "Bob" McCue passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was born in Cardston, Alberta to Clarence and Gladys McCue in 1932 and he married Katie Paxman in 1956. Bob and Katie have seven children: Bob McCue (Karen), Susan Robertson (Fred), David McCue (Roxanne), Carol Ruttan (Mark), Richard McCue (Heather), Gordon McCue (Jenny-Lynn), and Russel McCue (Jennifer), thirty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Bob earned B.A. and B.Ed. degrees at the University of Alberta, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Brigham Young University before accepting a job as assistant professor in the history department at the University of Victoria in 1968. He taught history at UVic until he retired in 1997. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bob served his church community his whole life. He served a full-time mission for his church in Australia and Tasmania from 1951-53, and continued to serve in his local congregations for the rest of his life. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, he loved his family, and everything he did and accomplished in his life grew out of those two great loves.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 701 Mann Avenue, Victoria, B.C.

Dear McCue Family,
I remember professor McCue fondly. His History course was one of two History courses I took as an undergrad. This was back in 1987. I was in awww in his class. He taught us a superb lesson about Calvinism and Lutheranism, and I have never forgotten his entire course. I learned so much. And, he was kind, generous and helpful to me, as a new immigrant to Victoria, and as a student with ESL. My mos tisncere condolences to all.
