It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dr. Rob Muir aka Robbie, Whitey, and Muirsey. Survived by his parents and siblings. He was a graduate of McGill University in 1985 from the Faculty of Dentistry. Upon graduation he moved to Prince George where he practiced from 1985 to 1990. In June of 1990 he made the decision to relocate to Victoria and join the team at Cresta Dental where he practiced until retirement. He was an avid hockey player, golfer, gardener, and a world traveler. He was known for his kindness, generosity, humor, and wonderful personality. Loved by many patients, friends, and colleagues. Oh, what a heavy heart today. I found out my dentist and friend, Dr Rob Muir, had passed away. . My dentist for over 30 years. Always a smile and a chuckle about his latest vacation to far off sandy beaches, and where to next! He was a wonderful man. I looked forward to every appointment. I was reassured when he quietly talked with his dental assistant, when assessing my teeth . .Gentle and always explaining. what he was planning. His eyes lit up when he talked of hockey and his hockey friends. His floral gardens were his pride and joy. My sincere condolences to you, his family, and to his dental family. He brought me joy. I will miss him.

I was shocked to hear my longtime dentist Dr Muir had passed away. He was the type of dentist who believed that you don´t have to fix everything now. He would say "nah don´t fix it now, we´ll get to it later". As someone who didn´t like visiting dentists these were magic words! Rest in peace Doc.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Robbie. We were friends all through school and you couldn't have a friend that was always so happy and so much fun to be around. After school we talked a few times and meet years later at a high school reunion and you would of thought we never missed a day.
My thoughts and prayer go out to your families.
Robbie was a great friend and will truly be missed by friends and family.
Rest in peace my friend.

I met Rob in one of his many trips to Mexico. I remember he used to tell me all his hockey stories, show me his jerseys and we could talk for hours about everything. He was definitely an amazing person, he´d enjoy to show me pictures of all of his passions. He was funny and caring... he was definitely the soul in every place. He´d make everybody turn their heads to admire his many Hawaiian shirts, his bright blonde hair and that great tan of his! He´d have every bartender yelling MR. ROB!!! From across the room as soon as they saw him... He´d always repeated to me how much he wanted me to do good in life and to succeed. Every time I see a flower I remember how much he loved gardening & how he would count the days for his next adventure...
Thank you for being a true gentleman, for never judging a book by its cover and for showing me how loving and enjoying life looks like. Rest in paradise Rob you´d always be remembered...

This is such a nice photo of Dr. Muir, or Whitey as he was known in dental school at McGill University. This picture was taken in 1985 right after graduation when we knew that we were finally done! Although Whitey and I did not stay in touch much after dental school, whenever we did talk or the one time we met in person again, it was as though we were still back in university. Whitey was a bit of an enigma to most of our classmates as nobody seemed to know quite what to make of him. He could be eccentric, loud, sometimes inappropriate, but he was always genuine. Whitey was generous to a fault, donating his time to help anyone in need, working at his Dad's garage in Lachute on the weekends (even though we had tons of school work to do), and then paying for everyone's rounds when out at the bar on Fridays in downtown Montreal. Students were placed in groups of 6 in the lab, in alphabetical order, that's how he and I ended up spending a lot of time together there, honing our manual dexterity. If not for that coincidence, I'm not sure that he and I would have gotten to know each other as well as we did. By the end of dental school, we were more than just classmates and friends, for a while at least. After graduation we drove across Canada together to start our new lives as dentists, in B.C. We packed all of our belongings in the trunk of a car that his Dad had received in lieu of payment from a customer, and then had refurbished it and painted it the ugliest of browns. Whitey and I had a lot of fun together most of the time, but we also disagreed about many things, and in the end, it was inevitable that we would part ways. I only saw Whitey once after dental school, when he had a "Family and Friends of Lachute" reunion, in Ottawa, and I was invited. It was in typical Whitey fashion, with food and drinks galore for everyone present. He looked fantastic, still with a full head of crazy blond hair matched only by his dazzling smile, and if I remember correctly, another Hawaiian shirt :) He had more wrinkles than before, most likely due to his undying love of suntanning. His loud and outgoing persona hid a gentle soul. I remember when he sent me photos of his beloved garden in Victoria, replete with descriptions of all the perennials, various grasses and bushes, and all of that knowledge had been acquired from a University degree in Horticulture he obtained after graduating from dental school. As much as he liked to live his life "fiercely" (one of his favourite words when I knew him well), he also saw the calm beauty of flowers, just like he could see the beauty inside all of his chosen friends. In spite of his outward extravagance, you could count on Whitey if you needed help. Whitey loved, valued and respected his parents and siblings above everything else, a quality which drew me to him. I wonder if he had the chance to listen to any of the new songs by one of his favourite bands of all times, the Rolling Stones, from their last album just released. Whitey, I'm pretty sure that contrary to Mick Jagger, you did find some satisfaction in your life cut much too short. I wish I had seen you one more time my fair friend... Aurevoir mon ami, xoxo, Geneviève.

Truly sadness when I heard if Dr. Muir passing. He has been my dentist many years, shared travel stories to his Mexico trips. He walked past my house at times on way to work. Funny man, golfed with my Dad at Cedar Hill. Will be greatly missed. RIP. Sorry for your loss family, friends, co.workers.

Dr. Muir was my whole families dentist. Mine for over 30 years and my daughters since they cut their teeth. Most dentists before Dr. Muir would opt to just pull my tooth. Not him it was like he welcomed the challenge of trying to fix my teeth before ever considering pulling them. I really appreciated that. He always had the coolest Converse and a great sense of humor. I feel for all his co workers at Cresta and his family. I was at Cresta today and call me crazy but I swear I could hear him chatting and laughing. Just like usual. Rest in Peace Dr. Muir.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Muir's sudden passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Rob since he started practicing at Cresta some 30+ years ago. I looked forward to my appointments just to hear his stories of old hockey tales, Gretzky camps, and his many travelling adventures! He was more than a dentist - he was truly 'one of a kind' - personable, professional, and with a wicked sense of humour that always had me in stitches. He touched so many, and will be dearly missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, and friends.
RIP, Rob.

It was such an incredible way to do dentistry, he could read his clients. He would distract your mind. I thought who is this guy with a gold chain? Omg I learned.. he was an absolute amazing human being. I will never forget how I could hear him in the office waiting to see him for my appt. He absolutely delighted me.

Rob was a one of a kind. He was a banking client of mine when I was much younger and he offered to bring me out to his pick up hockey. I knew Robbie in his youth, living down the street from him in Lachute, Quebec. We played many games of ball hockey and football with the other boys in teh neighbourhood. I don't think I ever saw Robbie mad or sad. He always had a smile on his face. He was a hard worker, cutting lawns when he was young, and then working at the family owned gas station for many years. I'm sure he used that customer service learned there in his dentist practice, especially with all of the complimentary comments left here.
I would like to offer my sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Muir, and Rob's siblings: Garth, Debbie, Cathy, Doug, and their families. Rob made the world a better place with his kindness.
