Robert WRIGHT Obituary

WRIGHT, Robert Harold Chadwick (Bob) November 28, 1930 - April 17, 2013 Bob Wright, Founder, President and CEO of Oak Bay Marine Group, passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria British Columbia in the early evening hours of April 17th with his beloved wife Yun at his side. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Bob followed his passion for the ocean and moved west with a dream. Some 50 years later, the "Gumboot Fisherman" leaves a legacy with operations in Canada, the U.S., and the Bahamas. Bob was a born leader whose passion and enthusiasm were infectious. Described as a visionary, a dreamer, and a creator, Bob's larger-than-life personality inspired all those who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Yun, children Randy, Robin and Ronald, his grandchildren, his OBMG family and all those who shared in his life. At Bob's request, there will be no funeral. Information on a celebration of life will be communicated when the details have been finalized.

Yun, Randy, family, friends & associates we send our condolences. Bob was definitely larger than life & we enjoyed every minute of our time with him. Over the 28 years we have known one another, we shared many good times & chats about this & that. Bob was the powerhouse to get things moving in the sportfishing industry & his generosity with funding certainly made an impact on the conservation & enhancement of the salmon stocks in Rivers Inlet & throughout the coast of BC. He will be sadly missed by Barbara & Bill

On behalf of Jim Suffern and me, please accept our condolences in the loss of Bob. Jim and I met Bob when we started working for the Edmonton Bulletin Newspaper in 1949 and became friends by the time the paper folded and Bob moved to Victoria in 1951. We had many social outings with Bob and Shirley and although we did not keep in touch on a regular basis thereafter, Bob hosted my family along with four of our family friends in early 1970 with a complimentary fishing trip which we much appreciated. Jim, who lives in Calgary, and I are meeting with friends in 3-Valley Gap, BC next month for our annual (38th) reunion and I am sure we will have many stories to reminisce about our days with Bob at the Bulletin.

Although it has been 25 plus years since spending much time with Bob I will always recall the fond memories of fishing from the Marabell and skiing at Whistler. My condolences to the family.

Although it has been 25 plus years since we spent much time together I will always recall the fond memories of both fishing from the Marabell and skiing at Whistler.

Although we drifted apart in our later years, I have many fond memories of our childhood days. Bob was always my 'Big Brother' and will be fondly remembered as such
